I woke up in the Med Bay with a cannula in my nose. The first thing I saw was the ceiling, the first person I saw was Oliver. He was deep in thought, staring at the floor as if it was telling him something. He didn't notice me wake up. He didn't see me. Sometimes I think I'm invisible.
"Ollie..." I croaked out, my voice sounding strange and foreign to me.
His head snapped up so fast, you'd think he was a speedster.
"Barry..." He said, almost sounding relieved. "I'm so sorry."
"Why? It's not your fault I'm messed up," I said with a painful chuckle. "It's not your fault I can't handle anything right, or that I'm ugly, or a freak, or dumb, or fat."
My voice broke when I said that last word. I've been looking at myself lately and realizing the chub on my legs and my stomach. I've never really considered myself fat. Until now...
"It's not your fault that I have this crushing, suffocating fear over everything lately," and now I was crying. "It's not your fault I'm a mistake."
"Stop!" Oliver said. "I don't want to hear this bullshit anymore! Dumb? Freak? Fat?! You think you're fat?"
"No," I said. Because I didn't think I was fat. "I know I'm fat."
"Well, you aren't," he said.
"Well, I don't believe you." I said. I'm sick of laying here, I feel helpless. I ripped the cannula out of my nose and sat up. I stood up and Oliver rushed to the other side of the bed. I stumbled a bit and almost fell, but instead of feeling the hard cold tile like I was expecting, I felt arms wrap around my waste.
As Oliver caught me, Caitlin was coming into the med bay.
"Barry, you feel dizzy?"
"Um no, I'm fine," I said.
I already know why I'm dizzy. 5 days is a long time to go without food, especially for a speedster. Oliver gave me a look.
"What? I'm fine, just needed a second to get back on my feet is all," I tell him.
He opened his mouth like he was about to say something, but was cut off by the alarm.
"Come on," said Caitlin.
We ran to the Cortex to see Cisco already there.
"What's going on?" I asked him.
"Fire in the Sunrise apartment complex," he said.
"Where's that at?" I asked.
"Just south of here," he said.
I got my suit and left. The whole building is on fire, and it won't be long until it collapses. I run inside and check on each floor for any children, people, or pets. I ran to the third floor and heard a little girl screaming. I got her out as quick as I could, and put safely on the concrete outside, then rushed back in. On the 5 floor I got a women in her twenties and her dog outside, then came back in to check the top and final floor. As I was looking I got really dizzy, and I had to lean against the wall for support.
"Barry, that building is about to collapse, did you get everyone?" Cisco said in my ear piece.
I rushed around the sixth floor, just to be sure. I'll handle the dizziness later.
"No, it looks like I got everyone," I said.
"Okay, great. Now get out, it only has about two minutes before it collapses, and that's only if the main support beams hold out as long as I think they will. Hurry!" he said.
I took a deep breath and started to run but when I got the the second floor the dizziness was too much and I fell.
Groaning, I danced on the edge of consciousness. Cisco started yelling. "Barry, what are you doing?! That building is gonna come down any second, get out!" I didn't have the strength to answer, so I didn't. I thought to myself, I'm going to die here. In a fire, of all things. I accepted my fate and didn't even try to get up. I just laid there. Smiling to myself. Happy. I was going to die. With that thought in my head and Cisco screaming in my ear, I dosed out of reality. I felt something grabbing me, picking me up, but I ignored it. It doesn't matter now.
Yes, yes I know, you all hate me. I'm so sorry it took me this long to update. I'll definitively try and get the next chapter up sooner.
Again, my apologies. But I hope you enjoy this chapter. Bye, lovelies.
