We wait for about 30 minutes before Tessa arrives to pick us up. "Now who do I have to meet?" She groans.
"Just follow me." I smirk. I actually have no idea where Matt is, so I walk around aimlessly acting like I do.
"Do you even know where you're going, Gabi?"
"Of course, Tessa." Out of the corner of my eye I see the dark haired boy going over paperwork in the hallway. "Right over here." I smile. Adrien stayed on the bench because he didn't want to walk more than has to, but I catch a glimpse of him rolling his eyes, and shaking his head at me. I smile proudly and tap Matt on the shoulder. "Hi."
"Hey. Who's this?" He points at Tessa.
"This is my best friend, Tessa." I look over at her, and it looks like she just got hit by a car. "Tessa? Hellooo." She snaps out of her weird trance.
"Oh, sorry. Hi." She shyly waves and I try to contain my laughter at how awkward she is.
"Well, Matt is an intern here at the hospital, and he's also gonna start going to our school soon. Right Matt?" I look at him, and he looks almost as awkward as she does. I smack my forehead.
"Oh, u-uh, yeah, right."
"So, yeah. I just thought you would want to meet another person who'll be going to your school, Matt."
"Yeah, um, nice to meet you, Tessa. I'll see you at school I guess." He says, not taking his eyes off her.
"You too, Matt." Tessa smiles. She takes one last look, and we head back to Adrien.
"So Tessa, are you in love yet?" He laughs.
"Cause it sure seemed like it." I join in.
"Did you see his eyes? They were the perfect shade of brown! And his hair! It swoops! You have to get me his number!" She yells. I don't think I've ever seen her so excited before.
"You can get it yourself next week. That's when he starts at Crystal Valley High."
"Yay!" She shrieks. Adrien and I overdramatically cover our ears.
"Come on, let's go get some food."
---
After we leave the hospital, we head to Cheddar's for dinner. I get my usual steak and macaroni, Adrien gets a club sandwich with mashed potatoes, and Tessa gets the same thing as me. I have something to ask Adrien, and I think Tessa can tell, because she nods at me and says she has to go to the bathroom.
"Can I ask you something?"
"I think you just did." He jokes. I roll my eyes.
"I'm serious, Adrien." He realizes it is a serious question, and he starts to look kind of nervous for some reason.
"Why didn't your parents come to the hospital with you? I mean they didn't even come visit you when you first got in the wreck. This isn't really my place to say, but they don't exactly seem like great parents." He looks a little shocked at my statement, then he looks at his feet and stays quiet for a while. Finally he speaks up.
"They're not." I look up and his glistening blue eyes are intensely staring at me. "They've never been there for me. I thought that would change since I almost died, but no. They were actually mad because they had to take off of work and come pick me up. I'm alone most of the time with my little brother, because they can't be bothered to come home. It's like they wish I wasn't their son. But they always go to my brother's baseball games, basketball games, soccer games, you know, that kind of stuff. But I always have to get a ride with someone because they don't even want to drop me off at mine. It's not fair. I think-" He trails off a bit. "I think that's why I was so mean to everyone. I have anger towards my parents and I was taking it out on you and everyone else. I'm-" I cut him off.
"Do not apologize. I said I forgive you, now you need to stop apologizing and forgive yourself." He nods and I lean over the table and kiss his cheek.
Then Tessa comes running up to the table. "What's wrong Tessa?" I ask.
"We need to leave."
"What? Why?"
"Alya's here, and she is mad. Like, very mad."
"Okay let's go." We all try to leave as fast as we can. We get into the parking lot, and as soon as we do, I hear a voice. Wonderful.
"Aww. Look Megan! They're running away just like the chickens they are." Alya smirks.
"Bawk bawk." Megan adds sarcastically.
"Why don't you just give up and leave us alone. Everyone already hates you. And they'll hate you even more when they kn-" I elbow Adrien in the stomach and give him a stern look. I know he's planning on telling everyone about Alya's brother, and as much as I hate her, I just think it's a little too drastic for now.
"What?" Alya asks, looking a little nervous.
"Nothing. Nevermind." Adrien answers. Alya looks confused for a second, but ultimately shakes her head and goes back to insulting us.
"Well. I just want to let you know that I'm coming for you. Hard." An old man walks by, and she stops being evil and puts a fake smile on her face. "Well. Toodles!" She flitters her fingers and struts to her car.
"Adrien. You know I don't want you to do that yet."
"I know, but she deserves it."
"No. Please promise me you won't do anything crazy."
"Fine. I promise."
"Thank you." I kiss him on the cheek, and we all head back to the car.
---
After we drop Adrien off at his house, I ask Tessa if I can spend the night at her house. It's about 7:30 by the time we get there because we had to stop at my house to pick up my toothbrush, makeup, an extra pair of clothes, etc.
"You wanna watch a movie?" Tessa asks.
"Nah, I'd rather watch a show."
"Gossip Girl?"
"Sure. I'll get the Pringles and the Pepsi." I run to the pantry, get the snacks, and grab a couple blankets. We make a blanket fort and cuddle up for a binge-watching marathon. We end up going to bed at about 12:30-which is very early for us. I guess it's just been a long day.
