Chapter 2: Helena

I guided Frank to mine and Mikey’s house, and soon enough we were pulling up to our driveway.

Hey, do you wanna stay over for a bit, I’m pretty sure our Nana wouldn’t mind.” I saw Mikey sign to Frank. Frank looked at me, and I just nodded. He turned off the car and headed out too. We walked up to the door, and I took out my house key, luckily it didn’t fall out of my jeans.

Frank, how did the teacher let you leave?” I sign before opening the door.

“They didn’t, I skipped.” He signs as I manage to get the door open.

“I’M HOME!” I yell and walk inside. The smell of cookies flood into my nose and all of today's’ troubles seemed to roll off my shoulders.

“Gerard dear, are you fine?” I hear the voice of my Nana ask.

“Yes, I’m doing much better, and we decided to invite our friend Frank over. He is pretty much the reason I’m fine.” I say and walk into the kitchen. She was there pulling another batch of cookies.

“Nana, if you keep making so many cookies, I’m gonna be really fat.” She scoffs.

“You can never have enough cookies!” She cries out. I let out a small laugh then she turns around and looks at Frank.

“My, dear. Aren’t a handsome young man!” She exclaims, and Frank’s face gets all red. Mikey lets out a laugh, and Nana gasps.

“Michael James Way, did you just laugh?” Mikey gives Nana a death stare, and I start laughing even more.

“Anyway, hello. My name is Elena, but you can call me Nana if you like.”

“Um, I think I’m gonna stick to Elena for now.” He says and then sits down in the kitchen stool. I take the seat next to him, and Mikey sits next to me so that I'm in the middle.

“So, tell me a little about yourself?” Nana says.

“Well, there is nothing much to say. I live with my mom and stepdad, I just moved in last week, and I started school today. Interesting day, might I add. Um, I found out this school for some unknown reason doesn’t like mute or deaf people. I play guitar, I love dogs and skittles.” He finishes.

“Yeah, Bellville can be a bitch, but its used to be good back in my day. I’m pretty sure this place with some maintenance, care, and love can turn to a beautiful place again but people don’t seem to care now a day.” She says. I take a cookie from the tray and start to munch down.

“Stop eating the cookie, you’re already fat as it is.”

I choke on the cookie and start coughing. Nana rushes to get me water, and I gulp it down.

“Jesus Gerard, are you okay?” Nana says.

“Yeah, I’m okay. I promise. I just choked on a fucking cookie. I think that’s enough cookies for me today.” I let out a small chuckle, and Nana buys it.

“Frankie dear, did you call your mom to let her know that you were here?” Nana says, I look at Frank and watch as his pupils dilate in sudden realization that, I bet, he didn’t.

“Fuuuuuudge I didn’t.” He whipped out his phone and turned around to talk to his mom.

“Hey mom-” there was a frantic voice speaking quickly at the other end, “mom, mom. Lis-” he sighed, “mom I’m fine. I’m over at my friends house,” he inhale deeply and turned to face us, “gasp, yes mom. I can make friends.” You can just hear the sarcasm in his voice. The person squealed on the other end and said something, “they are brothers,” Frank’s mom said something and his face turns red, “FOR CRYING OUT LOUD MOM,” and he face palms. “Yeah, okay I will… love you too mom.” And with that he ends his calls.
