'Now if you could all take out your notes, we'll be reviewing them now.' Mrs Matling's voice cut through the silence after the video.
I quickly looked around my desk for the notes i should have taken, then I realized that I didn't.
Arwin'll let me copy. I turned to face Arwin, who apparently, was about to ask me the same thing.
'Well, I guess we're both screwed. Huh.' Arwin added. Mrs Matling was waddling up to the front of the class again with a pen and a small notepad in her hand.
'Now, what.. Erm..' She squinted and brought her notepad closer to her face. 'What are some of the ways that our.. Our government is protecting our s-schools?' She looked up and faced the class, and in a much louder voice, 'What are some of the ways that our government is protecting our schools?' She had obviously been required to ask us this specific question, and probably others. A hand shot up in front of me.
Mrs Matling looked around quickly to see if anyone else had their hand up, and seeing no one else, she said 'Yes, Kate?'
Kate Gavier was one of the, if not the smartest, most kiss-ass student of our crumbling school. She brushed her long brown hair out of her face before answering, with a slight giggle, 'Well, they've added those switches to all of our classes to make sure the government would be alerted in case of an emergency.' She twisted her hair around her fingers and smiled. Mrs Matling smiled weakly and mumbled something along the lines of 'Yeah, yeah. Yep.' She was obviously exasperated with our class. 'Next question. What-?'
But we never got to hear the last question. An alarm, so unlike the bell, started to ring continuously. The lights shut off, and the sound of the backup power tapering off could be heard as well. The alarm died off as soon as the soft hum of electricity could no longer be heard.
Arwin tapped me on the shoulder. 'What's happening? This isn't normal.' There was a hint of fear in her voice. I opened my mouth but no sound came out.
Then four people dressed in complete black crashed through the windows and we all dove under our desks.
