It's day four, and I found another vault dweller, named Kate Murffy. She's the vaults research and medical developer. I was thrilled to run into her because I was loosing hope, hope that I had for finding people. I never knew the true meaning of survival and what true suffering is until now. We decided to clean up a little house that was in a small town a few miles away from the vault. While we where doing cleaning we made a promise.
"Oh, by the way Blake lets make a promise okay?" I looked over and saw that she had a bright smile on her face.
"What's up?" I said as I put down a tire that went to an old car.
"Promise me that we will stick together. I feel like we can make an impact on the world!" She then threw her fist in the air high and proud.
I looked down and remembered how she saved me before and helped me a lot. "I'll just get both of us killed." I mumbled softly.
Then Kate looked up and marched over to me, and slapped me hard across the face. "Don't you tell me that! I heard what you said Blake, we are a good team and I'm not to sure how many of us are left or how many betrayed each other. So don't give me that crap! You know I'm scared to! I used to spend my days in the lab but now life is different!" Her eyes cold but my cheek is on fire.
I held my face and looked at the ground, she's right, I need to just relax and take things more seriously. "There must be others who can help us." I said looking up, taking my hand off my face."There must be people with the same mind set, who wanna help the world become what it was." I thought hard about what I was gonna say next.
"I know this may would like suicide. But Let me go out and find others! We can all work hard together and make West Virginia a better place!" I grinned and stood my ground.
Kate shook her head and chuckled a bit. She clapped her hands back and forth getting the dust and dirt off. "Blake your odd, you just said you would get us both killed and now you want to go out and get killed?" She laughed a bit more.
I looked out to the west watching the sunset and feeling the crisp breeze blow my hair. I looked at a tree that had not gotten burned by the bombs and smiled. "Ill come back okay, It will be a few days." I said
I walked over to an old dresser and scooted it back. Underneath was an old pistol with 10mm rounds. I picked it up and loaded the gun, then grabbed some food from what was left of the fridge. "That food can't be any good Blake." Kate said with confusion.
"I know." I had to get going soon.
I started off and waved Kate good bye. Yes I was scared but, it's our duty to rebuild the world to its former glory. If it means a death and blood I'll do it.
I gripped the gun tightly, jumping to any noise I heard. I knew what to look for, blue vault suit. A few hours latter it got dark and so I decided to turn my pip-boy light on and turn up the music. "Almost heaven West Virginia. Blue ridge mountains Shenandoah river life was there older than the trees younger than the mountains blowing like a breeze." I sang as loud as I could. One of my favorite songs.
I approached a small tent and decided to take a look, turning off the music I crouched low and held the gun out. I crept around to see if there was any evidence of a person. I lifted up the tints entrance and saw a man sitting there with a little girl. "Stay back stranger." The man hissed.
"Are you a threat? Put that gun down." He narrowed his eyes.
"I'm looking for other Vault Dwellers sir, Vault 76 that is." I put the gun on the ground and put my hands up.
The man put his hand behind his head and frowned. "You see, this girl is not my child and she lost her parents to this mister so now she be traveling with me." He got up and sighed.
"I'm Blake, Blake Davids." I held my hand out but he just hit it away.
"No need for intros kid." He picked up the gun and turned his pip-boy light on and examined it.
"Where did you find this?" He said in a deep voice.
"I set up camp over in a town." I mumbled softly.
I could now clearly see that both the girl and him are from the Vault. Maybe they want to come with me. "Sir what's your name?" I asked with a bit more confidence.
He threw the gun on the ground and picked the little girl up, she was sleeping hard. "My name don't matter till I trust you. Show me your camp and then we can talk." He said towering over me.
I smiled and turned my back to him and started to walk. On the way back I think I annoyed him because I kept asking questions an then I would turn the radio on and he would yell at me. So far he seemed like a tough guy with a nice heart. When we got back the sun was rising pink filled the sky and the temperature was going up. I waved to Kate and smiled. "Look who I found!" I said with glee.
So far there are four people at camp right now, Kate, the man, the girl, and I. I sure hope we can make an impact on the world.
