Tears spilled over Frank's cheeks but no sound was heard as he shook Sir violently. He had fallen asleep three days ago and hadn't woken up, he was very cold and his skin was turning pale and blue. Frank's tummy growled once again and he let out a whine as he shook him more, eventually giving up and slumping down on the floor next to his Sir.
There wasn't any food in the kitchen as Sir had promised to go shopping on Monday, that was when he decided to take his extra long nap. There weren't any drinks either, the water that came out of the tap was brown and murky, but his throat was so dry and scratchy he was growing desperate.
He heaved himself off the floor, staring down at Sir and letting out a huff. He walked shakily to the kitchen on unsteady legs, opening all the cupboards and finding nothing. He opened the small door under the sink and found a few bottles around half full, some were more amber in colour and some were clear. Frank's eyes widened and he would've squealed happily if his throat wasn't so dry. He unscrewed the cap with difficulty, but he managed, and he took a large gulp. Tears flooded his eyes as a burning sensation stung his throat, he coughed as he wiped his tongue on his hand.
"Yucky." He muttered in disgust, trying the amber liquid instead only for the effects to be the same. "Why he got 'dis stuff?"
Frank had heard about the outside, his Sir always said it was scary and dangerous. He said it was full of people who wouldn't rest until they hurt him and they'd do unspeakable things that would kill Frank from the inside out. The small boy took hesitant steps towards the front door that he wasn't allowed to touch, grasping the handle with both hands and pushing down just like he had seen Sir do so many times before.
His sock clad feet met the gravel, making a crunching sound as he stepped out. Frank winced as the sharp rocks pierced the soles of his feet, he retracted back into the house for a mere second before he realised that he really had to do this if he didn't want to take a long nap just like Sir had.
He saw a patch of green a few steps away and he wondered what it was and if it would hurt as bad as the stones did. He took a deep breath and ran over to the green as fast as he could when he was malnourished and dehydrated. The strange green stuff felt nice under him and he decided he liked it much better. He sighed happily and wiggled his ties between the soft blades of emerald causing a giggle to erupt from his scratchy throat.
He walked slowly across the green ground, staring up in wonder at the tall things all around him; he knew what those were from the story books Sir had shown him.
"Twees" he mumbled in amazement, the 'r' slurred. He unsurely raised a hand to gently run his fingers over the brown bark tentatively, gasping at the rough texture on his fingertips.
He smiled slightly and looked down at his feet as he started to walk along the soft green once again. He continued for a long time, humming a happy tune as he went; that stopped abruptly however, when the green stopped and he was met with hard, grey ground once again. He frowned and looked up to see rows of pretty looking houses, much prettier than the old, rundown place him and Sir lived in. Frank was about to step off of the green when he remembered how the grey floor had hurt his feet before. He had a pout settled on his face as he decided to sit on the green, maybe he'd try again when the sun comes to say hello in the morning.
He flopped back against the floor, humming happily again as he kicked his feet in the air, giggling slightly when he saw his white socks in front of him.
"Hey, um.. what're you doing on the grass?" Frank heard a voice from somewhere in front of him. He sat up and crossed his legs, looking up at the man in front of him curiously. He had long black hair with a bit of a blueish green colour poking out at the roots. Frank then noticed that he was standing on the grey floor without any problems and he wasn't showing any signs of pain.
"How you doin' that?" Frank gasped.
"Doing what?" The man asked as he raised an eyebrow inquisitively.
"Standin' on the grey floor! It hurted my footsies." Frank frowned, still looking up at the stranger.
"I've got shoes on, honey." He chuckled, as he looked down towards his feet then back at Frank.
"Oh, I don't have no shoes." Frank said sadly, pouting as he watched himself curling his toes in his long white socks. Tears welled in Frank's eyes and he let out a whimper when he looked back up at the man. "H-how I gonna get off the gween stuff?"
"Shit, don't.. don't cry, please." The man kneeled in front of Frank. "Do you have anywhere to go, sweetheart?"
"N-no, Sir is havin' a weally long nap 'n he's not wakin' up!" Frank whined as the tears spilled.
"Oh, honey. D-do you want to come with me? I'll get you cleaned up." Frank nodded and put his arms up once the man had stood.
"I-I gots no shoes, you gotta stop the grey from gettin' me." He explained, the man had a confused expression on his face but he nodded and smiled nonetheless, picking Frank up with ease. He was shocked at how light the poor boy was, but pushed it aside as he walked back to his house.
"I'm Gerard, by the way." He said as he took long strides down the path, hiking Frank up on his hip every now and again.
"Geward.. too hard. Gonna call you Gee." Frank mumbled from where his face was pressed against Gerard's shoulder.
"What's your name, baby?" Gerard asked, looking down at Frank as he felt him nuzzling in his shirt.
"I'm Fwankie!" He giggled, kicking his legs back and forth.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Frankie." Gerard said sweetly. Frank only giggled in return, snuggling into Gerard even more if that was remotely possible.
Gerard obviously had questions about the small boy, but he decided that could wait until morning. The poor thing was ridiculously underweight and he cleared his throat occasionally, so it must've been dry. From the way he slurred his 'r's and didn't speak with anything even close to proper grammar he knew that he hadn't gotten an education and if he had it wasn't a very good one. He looked at Frank again, a sad look covering his face as he realised how badly he must've been treated wherever he came from. He just hoped he could make it better.
