Chapter 3

Besides a couple of gasps from a few people in the stands, all was quiet as Hiccup's name was called. The silence was becoming heavy as everyone took in the news that a small viking with horrible shooting skills had beat every one of them.

I looked over to Hiccup who was starting to turn very pale. His mouth hung open and he was staring straight ahead, frozen. His father looked the same as his son did, but he shook his head, turning to the Viking next to him.

"Go, Hiccup." Despite him speaking quietly, I could still hear the older Chief speaking to his son.

Hiccup turned his head to look at his father, a look of disbelief on his features.

"What? No, dad, th-this has to be a mistake!" Hiccup exclaims as his father brings him to his feet and pushes him forward slightly. He looks back to his father for help, not receiving any as he was just as confused as everyone else.

Finally, I began to feel pity for the boy as he stood there, everyone watching him with their mouths hanging open. I walked over and placed a hand on his back, making him jump slightly as I lead him toward the entrance of the arena.

"No, no, no, no!" He tried to push my hand away and stop me from walking him there. "This has to be a mistake!" I kept my hand firmly on his back, continuing to push him along.

"Just keep walking." I tried to assure him, but it sounded more forced than I wanted, making him even more scared.

"Why him?!" Someone from the other side of the stands yelled.

"Yeah! He didn't even do that great!" Another agreed, yelling more closely than the last guy.

We made our way down to the entrance, the guard opening the gate stared as Hiccup walked by. I pushed him out past the gate, but he just stood there, looking around. I repeated the action again, pushing a bit harder, only to get the same results.

I groaned silently before grabbed his back once more, leading him out to the center and in front of the king. Once we got there, I let go of him and bowed, looking up to see the king rushing out, pushing the speaker away.

"I'm sorry, there's been a misunderstanding. P-Princess Eliza didn't want Hiccup, sh-she wanted um..."

The Princess herself walked over, pushing him aside, standing on her tiptoes to speak into the mic.

"There has been no mistake. I choose Hiccup Haddock of Berk. And that's final."

"No no.." Hiccup whispered to himself, shaking his head.

The crowd around began to talk to the people around them, occasionally shouting their protest of who she picked. Upon looking around, I quickly noticed that an all out brawl was starting to take place. Palace guards rushed in to calm the mess, somehow outnumbering the people there who were fighting. Some began to drop down into the arena, while some threw stuff at Hiccup. He put his arms up to defend himself as someone threw some garbage at him.

I grabbed his wrist tightly and ran toward the gate that led up to the privet access hall, which was really just the way the royals got around.

"Follow me!" I shouted back to him, feeling him stumble and trip behind me. I surveyed the area, part of our training, and noticed two men were running toward us. I could heard Hiccup behind me protesting, but shut out his words, only focused on getting out. When we were close, I threw him toward the enterance. Once I was safely inside, I pulled the gate shut, setting the lock to "locked" before sighing, leaning back against the wall.
