Number Two

 It was a long day.

By the time lunch rolled around, I was tired, frustrated, and annoyed with myself. At least I had remembered the project that was due in History, and I was pretty confident about the pop quiz in Bio, but I had been late to Honors English and Ms. Magdelena assigned me an essay on the importance of timeliness.

I was sitting down at lunch, starting my essay so I wouldn't forget later, when Wyatt came and sat by me.

 "Hey, Lil."

 I grunted in reply.

 "Rough day?"

I sighed and put down my pencil. "Extra work. Yay."

He laughed. "Sorry, that sucks. I was just a little late for P.E, but I got out of running an extra lap because of my knee."

I shook my head and smiled. Wyatt had the best of luck. Unlike me, the unlucky ducky. No rabbits foot or four leaf clover could change that. Being late hadn't even really been my fault for starters. Our house was so hectic in the morning.

"Oh, I almost forgot."

I pulled out my black journal and wrote: 1. Don't trust your brother to wake you up.

"First tip on the list!" I smiled.

 "Tips for life?"

 "Yeah."

"You've been talking about doing that for ages. Good thing you finally started." Wyatt said smiling.

I couldn't help smiling back. Wyatt's smile was contagious and downright adorable. He had one dimple on his right side and his brown and blue eyes crinkled at the edges, almost hidden by his light brown hair. Wyatt was cute, I had to admit. If I wasn't his best friend...

"So you wanna go play some soccer after school?" Wyatt asked, taking a bite out of an apple.

"I'd love to." I said. "But I have a butt load of homework."

Wyatt laughed. "So do I. Why does that mean we can't play soccer?"

I rolled my eyes. "Tell you what, if we work on homework before hand, I'll go play soccer with you."

"Deal." He said. "So, you going to the football game Saturday?"

 "Maybe..." I said.

School events weren't really my thing. Honestly, if Wyatt didn't sit next to me during lunch, I'd be a major loner. I was every bit the cliche antisocial nerd. I had straight brown hair and gray-ish blue eyes, which really were kind of pretty, but that didn't matter much. My glasses and braces took all the attention. Not to mention that I had straight A's in all my classes and hadn't ever had a boyfriend. I was branded a nerd for life.

"Come on!" Wyatt said and took another bite out of his apple. "You have to go! You haven't even come to one game this year."

 "Yeah, but..."

 "No buts. You're coming."

"Fine. But I'm bringing my book."

"No, you're not. You're going to be social for a change."

I raised my eyebrows, but decided not to argue. That, of course, didn't mean I agreed. But I knew winning an arguement with Wyatt was nearly impossible when he made up his mind.

While I had my journal out I decided to write down number two.

 2. Always bring a book, just in case.
