During the drive home Wyatt tried to cheer me up. He joked and laughed and smiled. The smile made the most difference. I loved the sight of his smile more than anything else. It cheered me up more than anything else possibly could. The girls who had been such jerks to me, and the entire football game fiasco, was soon forgotten as my best friend and I drove home.

We used the key under the doormat to get into the house. My parents had gone on a date, thinking we would be at the high school for the football game until late. I turned on the lights and went to get a movie out of my room while Wyatt raided the kitchen.

In my room, I got a look at myself in the mirror. I looked absolutely terrible. My eyes were red and my face was streaked with tears. My hair was messed up and my shirt was wet where my tears had fallen.

I couldn't imagine why Wyatt had ditched those girls for me. But I knew the answer. We were best friends. That explained it. It was best friends and nothing more. For a second I had thought....No, I couldn't allow myself to think like that. I couldn't ruin our friendship. But at the same time....

I shook myself. This couldn't be happening. I couldn't be falling in love with my best friend.

That should be one of my tips. I thought.

I grabbed the movie and ran back out to the kitchen. That's when I saw Wyatt snacking on my stash of candy.

"What are you doing!?" I exclaimed.

 "Who, me?" Wyatt asked innocently.

 "Yes, you!"

 "Couldn't be!"

"Wyatt!" I said, trying to be stern, but I had to laugh. "I'm not going through that rhyme with you."

 He shrugged.

"Why are you eating my candy?"

 "What, this?"

 "Wyatt!"

 "It was so tempting!"

 "Hand it over."

He sighed and gave me the remains of my skittles and Reese's. I sighed. I was annoyed he had eaten my candy, but I had to smile. He was my best friend after all. And after what he had done for me, this really wasn't that big of a deal.

"So, what movie did you pick?"

 "The new action adventure movie."

 "Yes!"

"What? Did you think I was going to pick a chick flick."

"No, but I'm glad you didn't."

"I know you hate that kind of thing." I said, smiling. "I know you too well to do something like that to you."

He smiled. "This is why we're best friends."

"Oh really?" I said, laughing. "I thought it was my amazing charm and good looks."

He laughed. "Don't worry. It's that too."

I could feel myself blushing. "Let's-let's just watch the movie."

He smiled. I blushed more. "Okay. Let's."

I threw Wyatt the case, which he caught smoothly. I jumped onto the couch and grabbed the blanket from the back. As Wyatt set up the movie, I snuggled up in the blanket. Soon, Wyatt was done with the movie. He sat down on the couch next to me, right by my feet. The movie started to play, and in the dim light, I could see Wyatt looking over at me.

I smiled, raising an eyebrow. He wiggled his eyebrows at me and I laughed. We turned back to watch the movie, but I felt like Wyatt was still looking over at me. Whenever I looked over though, he wasn't looking over at me. I smiled, and could feel myself blushing. Thank goodness it was dark.

Soon, the position I was in got uncomfortable. I rubbed my neck, trying to get rid of the cramp in my neck.

 "You wanna turn around?"

I nodded. I grabbed a pillow and put it on his lap. He put his arm over my shoulder and I curled up next to him. We watched the movie, but I was falling asleep soon. It didn't help that Wyatt was playing with my hair.

"What are you doing?" I asked, laughing.

 "Tying knots." Wyatt whispered.

 I smiled. "Whatever Wyatt."

Note to self: Number Five: Best friends are the easiest, and hardest, to fall in love with.
