After trying out about 5 more outfits, we got tired and went to the cash register to get everything rung up.
"You're total will be $97.41." the cashier said, putting all my stuff in bags.
Luckily I came on a good day where they had numerous sales going on, or I would have spent a lot more.
"O-okay." I said shyly, pulling out my wallet. Thankfully, I had a couple hundred dollars that Mama TiTi gave me, even after I said I didn't want this much.
I grabbed one hundred dollar bill and was about to hand it to the lady, when my hand was pushed down.
I looked at Cordae and gave him a confused look. He looked back at me and handed the lady his own one hundred dollar bill instead.
"I gotchu, mama." he told me.
"But I--" I started off but I stopped when I realized there was no use. When someone offered to pay for you, be nice and accept that offer. It would be rude to decline. Mama TiTi taught me that from a young age.
The lady handed me both large bags with my stuff in it. "You should be that lucky your boyfriend offered to pay for you."
I stared at her in shock. I became slightly embarrassed. "B-boyfriend? Oh-h no, ma'am he's not my--"
"Yeah she's right, baby. You are lucky. Now, come on." Cordae said smirking and wrapped my arms around my shoulders.
The whole way out, even after we left the store, I stared at him disbelief. "Why would you lie to her like that?" I said, slightly hissing.
I mean I didn't mind the thought of him actually being my boyfriend but that wasn't right to lead that woman to believe that.
His arm continued to drape over my shoulders. He shrugged. "I don't know. Just enjoying myself. And it doesn't matter if we were 'leading her on' or not, because she doesn't know us and we don't know her."
I sighed and looked down, letting the argument go and conceding to his point. It doesn't even matter anymore.
We walked past a number of stores, then one caught my eye.
I wiggled my way out of Cordae's grip, and walked into Zumiez, one of my favorite stores.
"Where you going?" he called out for me . I pointed to the store and continued to inside.
Cordae followed me in started look around himself. My fingers ran through the racks, picking up some Vans apparel and a pair of high-waisted Adidas leggings.
"Babe, should I get these?" Cordae asked from behind me. I bit my inner cheek to prevent me from smiling and I turned around looking at the shoes he had in his hand. He was holding the Sk8-Hi, yellow high top Vans.
My face remained neutral as I responded. "Please don't call me that, it's over. " I chuckled at the goofy grin that was plastered on his face. "And, hmm, I don't know. If you want. I would get them."
"Why not? It's funny," he chuckled again. "But I think I might get them though. I have some things that would match with these."
I nodded my head and continued shopping. I drifted over to where the wall of shoes were and looked over to see if I wanted to buy any of them.
I heard low buzzing in my clutch and pulled out my phone. It was from Nick.
