I laughed at some Dubstep music blasted through the speakers and Luke and Ashton danced along. We pulled up in front of Macca’s and got out of the car. “What should we get?” I asked, but Calum and Michael were already ordering. Okay.
Ashton grabbed my hand and dragged me around to behind Macca’s. “You’re not going to rape me behind you?” I asked him, adjusting my shirt. He giggled and shook his head, then plopped down on the grass. I was pulled down with him. “We always sit outside when we eat here.” Ashton explained. “Plus, we have an announcement we’d prefer to make more private.”
I narrowed my eyes at him curiously before a tray full of French-fries was put in between us. “Yeah, we definitely have an announcement!” Calum explained excitedly, sitting on the grass next to us with a thud. Michael and Luke followed.
“What may this announcement be?” I asked them, taking a French-fry from the pile in the middle of us. “Well—Can I say it?—We sort of got noticed by One Direction and they asked us to tour with them and we said yes and, shit, we’re gonna be punk rockers.” Michael told me, taking a sip of his soda. I stared at them in disbelief. “Seriously?”
“That’s what I said.” Calum muttered loud enough for us all to hear. “Wait, you’re serious?—Oh my God, congratulations!” I opened my arms, signaling I wanted a group hug. They obliged, and we sat there for a while. It was like when a football team were planning. “Oh, and we were also wondering if you’d come on tour with us?” Ashton asked, and the rest of them hummed in agreement. I could feel my jaw drop. “U-Uh—Yes!”
Michael and Luke let out a breath of air. “We thought you’d say no.” How many times was I going to make the Are You Flipping Kidding Me face? “How could I honestly turn that opportunity down?” We separated from the hung and each took a handful of french-fries. Michael shrugged, pulling a cigarette pack out of his back pocket. He lit one and put in to his mouth in a swift movement. “We thought you may have already had plans, you know? College or work or something.” He explained, smoke flowing out like a waterfall. I only snorted, waving my hands through the smoke in a child-like way. “I have no idea of what my future holds. It could go two ways. One,” I held up my index finger, watching the foggy air swirl around it. “I could find a guy, get a nice job, settle down and have a family. Then there is two, which of course is the Hobo way. I could end up alone and barely able to afford an apartment with money I‘d get from a club that I may work at, like I do now.”
Calum’s smile switched to a frown. “I think you’ll go One.” His brown eyes studied me intently as he took a sip of his coke. “I’m going with One, too.” Ashton said with a smile, placing his hand on my back. I leaned into his touch and sighed. “I sure hope so. If I get Two, will you guys still be my friends?” Luke, who was in his own mind the whole conversation, abruptly stopped. “We’ll keep you on track to One, Lexi.” He spoke with full seriousness and everyone else hummed in agreement. I giggled. “Thanks Lukey.”
We stayed quiet after that, watching the leaves from the trees around us fall to the ground, enjoying the cool Fall air and salty French-fries.
