"Paper! Paper! Evenin' pape here." David yelled trying to get his papes to sell.

My brother and I walk to him laughing.

"Sing him to sleep, why don't you?" Jack said smiling.

"Oh yeah, lets see you two try." David said.

"Oh with pleasure." I said looking around seeing a man watching the boxing watch. I flash a coy smile at the man. "Buy onea me papes mista?" I asked pouting my lips, fluttering my eyelashes.

"Sure thing doll," he flirted, handing me a quarter.

"Gee thanks mista!" I said faking excitement before walking back to the two.

"You know I dont like it when you flirt to sell." Jack said glaring at me.

"But I sells my papes."

"How do you sell so many?" David asked.

"Raw talent Davey,"

"Extra extra Ellis Island in flames!" Jack shouted above the crowd.

"Where that story?" David asked, confused.

A man flagged down Jack buying a paper.

"Thank you sir," Jack told the man.

"Page nine," I said turning david.

"Thousands flee in panis! Thank you ladies," Jack grinned making me roll my eyes at him.

"Terrified flight from inferno!" I called piggybacking off his story, selling a few more.

"Trash fire next to immigration build terrifies seagulls,"

"We gotta sell somehow david. Headlines don't sell papes," I reiterated.

Les shoved his way towards us through the crows. Going straight to Jack a huge grin on his small features.

"Hey kid! Ya start in the back like ise told ya? Show me again?" Jack asked.

Les coughed and looked up at with sad puppy eyes.

"Buy me last pape miss?" he whispered, tears brimming his eyes.

"Aw! Heartbreakin Les! Go get em!" I said fuddling his hair.

"Well my father taught us not to lie!" David said.

"Yeah? Well our father taught us not to starve," Jack snapped

Les comes back "I just sold my last paper!"

"Great job kid, hey how about we divvy up the money? We'll grab some show and find you someplace safe to spend the night, Yeah?" Jack said leaning on a building and I leaning on his shoulders.

"Oh no, we gotta get home. Our folk'll be waitin' dinner" David said counting the money.

I look up at jack the down at my fingers.. Man that must be nice having a family..

"You got folks, huh?" Jack said looking at the two.

"Doesn't everyone?" Les questioned.

"Hey." David said trying to make Les stop talking.

Jack looks down at me and takes my hand and rubs my thumb.

"Our dad tangled with a delivery truck on the job, messed up his leg bad, so they laid him off. That's how come we had to find work." David said walking over that handing us our money.

"Yeah, sure, that... that makes sense, yes." I said looking down, "uhh too bad about your dad, really."

"Look, why don't you come home with us for dinner?" David said taking my hand. "Our folks will be happy to have you."
