When Hermes left us, we stood in the centre of Time Square. All of us felt hungry, so we went to eat a McDonald's nearby. Since we had some mortal money, Logan and I got a cheeseburger, and Tim got some chicken tenders.
While we ate, we talked about the battles we had all together. Tim told made us remember the embarrassing moments he had with his goat hoofs.
"I don't know about you guys, but I'm sure my parents would be proud of my goat hoofs if they saw what happened with the Minotaur. It was crazy! Man, I miss them." Tim said.We kept laughing until Logan asked this serious question.
"Well speaking of parents, Jane, you never told us about how your mom died." He said.
"That's out of the blue, why did you suddenly ask?" I said.
"Oh well, we were just talking about parents just now. And Tim and I were chatting yesterday, we realized that we know nothing about your parents. We don't even know about your mortal one. So, what the story?"
My smile faded " Uhh, I don't really want to talk about it yet." I said.
Logan held my hand "Come on, we are your friends. We were your friends for a long time now. Don't you think we deserve to hear it? Besides, it would make you feel better... somehow."
Suddenly I felt sadness. The memory of her death stayed in my head.
I put down my cheeseburger and looked right into Logan's eyes. "Logan please, not right now." I said in a stern voice. Logan puzzled with my statement, and looked down.
"I need to go for a walk. Let's go to Central Park. Maybe we can find something interesting there." I said.
Tim looked at Logan and I " I think we should split up. I'll go look in 5th Avenue. Jane you can go look in Central Park, and Logan you can look...." he said.
"I'll go with Jane!" Logan interrupted.
Tim and I stared at Logan. "Okay, Logan you can go with Jane." Tim said.
I want to oppose after what happened earlier, but I didn't say a word. While we walked to Central Park, Logan and I didn't talk. I tried to walk faster than him so that he wouldn't ask me questions about my mom. When we arrived at the entrance, Logan stopped me.
"Hey what's going on? Why won't you talk to me? Is this about your mom? Why won't you tell me about her?" His raised his voice
I ignored him.
"Jane, why are you acting like this? I have been your closest friend ever since you were a kid. I was there for you when she died. Don't you think I should know about this?"
I turned to him, and anger raged in my body. Tears started to fall "She got murdered! My dad killed her! Are you happy now?" I shouted.
Logan tried to hug me, but I pushed him away.
"Jane, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have pushed you." He said.
"Well you did. I can't believe you said that. Using what you did to me during my mom's death, the most painful experience had to go through, as a way to make me talk about her right now? Yes you are my closest friend, but you don't have the right to push me to whatever you want me to say." I said aggressively.
"Yes, I realized that. I'm sorry Jane, I won't do it again. I promise." He stepped forward and tried to hug her. But she refused and pulled away.
"Oh you want to talk about promises? Yesterday you said you would never let me get hurt. Well, look what's happening now? Stop making promises you can't keep Logan." I said tearfully.
"Yes Jane, I will. Please for-"
"In fact, I want you to stop making any more promises. Right now at least, I want all this to stop. I dont want you to continue the quest with me anymore. And please when I get home, I don't want to see you."
Tears ran through Logan's eyes and said "But Jane please, don't do this. I want to stay with you. Please..." He gently took my hand and kissed it.
I pulled hand away. "I'm sorry Logan."After I said this. I ran toward the opposite direction, now sobbing.
