Athena opened the door and was surprised to see the woman who introduced herself as Aunt Meg. Nobody knew why Margaret Shepherd suddenly appeared from nowhere. She lives from the other side of the world. Then the police followed to inform the family of Atty. Artemis Shepherd that the man died of a heart attack in his office and already in the morgue. A woman called 911 at 12:15 but the office was deserted. Only the corpses were there belonging to the lawyer and the security guard of the building.

"Use this. It's a Shepherd tradition. I was the last one who wore it." Meg puts on the black scarf over her niece's head before they drive to the funeral parlor. Hera, the widow of Artemis arranged a two day wake for friends and family before the cremation.

The eighteen year old asked why is she the only one wearing a scarf, how about her mom and her sister?

"Only the youngest girl in the family wears it. And you must not look in the mirror while wearing the scarf. That could spell bad omen for the dead's family. Another kin will die if you do." Meg hoped that her niece believed what she just reiterated. It's better to tell fabricated lies than to scare the girl who is not ready yet to embrace her calling. She knew in an instant that she was talking To The One when the lass opened the door for her this morning.

As they enter the funeral parlor, Meg sees the looming shadow over the coffin of Artemis. The spell will make them invisible from it.

The dark soul lurks around to inhale the scent of the virgin heiress. Athena is protected behind the scarf. The evil has its victim's eyes that can help it look through the soul of the gifted ones.

Meg prepared for this. She put an oil potion all over her body given by Glacilda to drive away the evil soul from seeing & smelling her.

Athena whispers a short prayer for her father as she stares at him in the coffin. The slats of nostalgic memory takes her away from the present as she let her mind travel back to that time when they danced on her 18th birthday ten months ago. It seems like only yesterday but everything is gone. Things happen so fast.  Now and always, only her father's memory lives.

They're not rich but well-off. Yet her family spends more than expected. Her mom was like a social butterfly, always attending or hosting parties. Her siblings were always vacationing out of the country. She often wondered how their father can keep up with their expenses. They said lawyers are liar. Perhaps, Artemis was doing a great job until he succumbed to a fatal heart attack.

After the inquest, Athena decides to leave Beaverton to plant her roots in another place. She throws a glance at the scarf hanging over her shirt. A great lawyer died but she felt like she's the only one truly grieving over it. Now that her father is gone, she feels like she doesn't belong here. She's still grieving for the loss but her siblings already started planning trips with their mother after the cremation.

"Aren't you joining us to France?" Hera enters the room asking her daughter after Meg informed her that Athena wanted to come to Georgia.

Athena doesn't wanna tell her mother that she's decided to leave them for good. Rather, she said that she's joining her aunt Meg for the trip back home. She wanna see the roots of her father in Tbilisi.

Hera didn't make any qualm about it. She had known her youngest child as queer and indifferent. Only her dead husband had understood the girl's peculiarity. She kissed her daughter and said, "Enjoy your vacation".

When Hera closed the door, Athena put on her shirt and tied the scarf over her neck following her aunt's instruction. Meg had been doing quite a ritual for her like putting oil all over her body when she's not wearing the scarf.

They are bringing the urn of his father's ashes to his homeland. Her father's widow never minds at all.

"You'd love our home town." Meg pressed her niece's hand with warmth as they boarded the plane.

Athena smiled at her. "It's a long flight. I had no decent sleep for days. I might as well take a nap. Would you mind Aunt Meg?"

The older woman shook her head and smiled to her niece who just lost her father. She understood the restlessness and the lethargic feeling. "Go on, my sweet child."

Margaret Shepherd is a beautiful woman in her late 40's, a spinster. It's her curse for not marrying her first love.
