"Alright students. Partner up and answer the questions on page 555. When the bell rings, turn in the assignment with both you and your partners names at the top. You must have the question and the answer written for each. Begin." Everyone shuffles around the room to get with a partner and I sit alone at the double-person desk and pull out some paper. I'm used to working alone by now. As I pull out my pencil, I feel a tap on my shoulder. "Tris?" I turn to see Tobias Eaton. The most popular person at our school. He's the captain of the football team and he is one of the top students in the class, what with his four-point-oh grade point average. I've had the biggest crush on him since freshman year.

"Um. Hi Tobias." He gives me a weird look. Oh right. Everyone calls him Four because that's his football number. "Sorry. Hi Four."

"You can call me Tobias. It's okay." He tells me. "So um. Do you wanna work together?"

I narrow my eyes at him questioningly, "Okay." I reply cautiously. He sits down next to me and smiles. I open up my book,"Can I write?" I ask a little too excitedly. He nods and I write our names at the top of the paper. I write the first question on the paper and he starts skimming the chapter for the answer. I look at the page he stops on and notice writing on the bottom corner.

Do you wanna go out on Friday? -T

I glance up at Tobias. He nods and smiles at me. He erases his writing and points to the page. "The answer." He explains. I shake my thoughts out of my head. I write down the answer and write a note to him on the next page.

Are you screwing with me? is this a joke?

He shakes his head and chuckles.

Could I have an answer? -T

I quickly finish writing down the next question and flip the page. I write:

Okayyyyy you seem really sincere about this...

He begins to write another mini note to me as I search for the answer in the textbook.

I am. I've liked you for a while now and couldn't think of how to ask... -T

I look up from the textbook and notice him blushing. I smile and write a reply.

Really?

He nods, so I add to my previous note.

I'd love to go out. Here's my number so we can discuss it...

524-677-8901

He smiles, "So what's the next question?" I flip back to the page with the questions. "Define analogy." I don't even need the book to answer. I write the answer and look back to the questions. "We're done." I sigh of relief. "So um we have ten minutes to the bell." He tells me. "Where should we go on Friday?"

"What did you have in mind?" I ask him.

"Well, would you be open to the idea of a picnic?" He looks up at me expectantly. I peer at him through my long, blonde hair and nod. "Alright." he smiles.

I erase all of our notes from the pages in the book and smile to myself. my brain floods. What should I wear? Did that just happen? Do I seem over-eager? The bell rings and snaps me out of my thoughts. I gather my things, stand up, and smile back at him before leaving the room.
