"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on."
- Robert Frost
I cant remember what happened after hitting the tree. Although my boyfriend Tyler and I were going the speed limit, we didn't see it coming. He had just purchased a new quad and although I told him the roads were icy, he still insisted on going for a ride. We hit a patch of ice and I felt the impact of the tree; being hurled off the quad as they collided.
Tyler is all I have, I need him to live; to help me continue my pitiful life. He is the one person who has been there for me since my parents plane crash four months ago. It has been difficult, both emotionally and physically.
I begin to hear an intense beeping sound and my eyes slowly flutter open. All I can feel is pain when I turn my head to look at my surroundings. Realizing that I am in a hospital room, I try to sit up, but feel a tug on my arm as a woman that I didn't notice helps and then pages the doctor.
I am about to speak to who I assume to be a nurse, when the doctor walks into the room, along with a police officer.
" Hello Ms. Queen, my name is Doctor Nickson. Do you know where you are, and how you got here?"
I look at the handsome middle-aged man, "You can call me Charlie. I know that I was in an accident with my boyfriend and In the hospital, but I cant remember anything afterwards."
He nods and writes on his clipboard. "You have a gash in your leg and a minor concussion. As you can see, your leg has been bandaged. We have been giving you some medication to make the pain more manageable.
I didn't notice the bandages, but as I look, reality starts to sink in.
Wheres Tyler? Wheres my boyfriend? I ask, hoping for a bit of good news.
I can feel myself beginning to panic as I glance at their faces.
"I am very sorry to inform you Charlie, but when my partners and I arrived at the scene, your boyfriend had what looked like no chance of survival. Of course, we contacted emergency services but with the excessive amount of blood loss we could tell it was too late." This time it was the police officer who had spoken.
"He's gone..?" I asked incredulous
"I'm afraid so, miss" answered the officer
Tears began to spill down my face, drenching the awful yellow hospital gown. I wonder if it's the one that doesnt fully cover you; that would be awkward.
In the corner of my eye I see a woman walking to my side. She enters my field of vision and I notice that she is very pretty; wearing a business suit, glasses, and her gorgeous brown hair is tied into a loose bun on top of her head.
"Hi Charlie, my name is Julie Charm. Has your mother ever mentioned me before her accident?"
Now that I think of it, I believe I have heard that name before. "Weren't my parents meant to come visit you?"
"Yes, they were on their way to my home in California that night of the plane crash. You may not know this but I am your godmother. Seeing as you are only seventeen, I am your legal guardian now."
I didn't even know I have a godmother and now she suddenly walks into my life. You would think my parents would have told me.
I'm guessing I said that aloud because Julie answers " I know I haven't had the chance to get to know you Charlie; I have been very busy with my children and running my business. Canada isn't that close to California either."
"So, what does this mean exactly? You being my Godmother?"
The Doctor interrupts, "It means that when you are discharged from the hospital you will be released into the custody of Mrs. Charm, and by the look of your vitals you should be able to go in the morning."
"In your care? Are you moving to Canada?" I turn my head to Julie.
"No honey, it means you are coming to California with me" she smiles
I guess it can't be to bad, It's not like I have anything left here to lose.

Authors note: I hope you enjoy the story. I started writing this over a year ago now and I just haven't been into writing lately. I am going through what has been previously published, tweaking a little and editing. Comments and likes are welcome, along with shares.
I am aiming to have an update or two a week.
