Chapter fourteen

Before you read, I am letting you know that in this story Luke is a year older than he actually is! So don't be like omge saaaam Lukey is 18, not 19!1!!! I know.

It's 12:18 am and July 16, Luke's 18 birthday so in celebration I am posting a surprise update in Luke's p.o.v (since you all seem to dig seeing what's going on in his mind).

Happy birthday Luke!!

Luke Hemmings

I heard bells. It was a pleasant noise and for a split second I thought I was in heaven and the constant ringing was simply the angels around me; however, I was wrong. The noise I was hearing was only my wake up call.

I groaned and covered my head with the pillow. The bedding they have us sleep oh is complete shit and after being here for three years, I still haven't grown custom to my sleeping arrangements. That's probably what I miss most about being home. My bed.

My roommate chuckled at my actions and stretched as he got out of bed. He was weird that's for sure, but Cole was a good guy. He was around my age, only a few years older, and went through similar issues as I. Cole was the closest person I had to a friend in this place and he's been by my side the past three years. It's good to have a friend, but I wonder if my old friends remember me. Most likely they don't, seeing as if they never seem to stop by or check in on me. Whatever, it's not like I care anyway.

"Good morning, birthday boy." Cole greeted me.

I use I anticipate my birthday. When I was younger, my parents would wake up super early and make me my favorite breakfast and when I woke up, my parents and my brothers were always waiting for my arrival. They greeted me with such enthusiasm and treated me like I was a king. My birthday was my day, and they made me feel really loved.

After my parents died, all the adrenaline disappeared. It was no longer an exciting day, it was just a normal day like any other one. Actually, it became a day I hated. What use to be a happy day just turned into me moping around it forlorn.

"Is it my birthday?" I inquired.

Truth me told, I had no clue today was that dreaded day. When I'm in this place, I lose track of time. It's like kids in their summer vacation; they never remember the day as do I.

"Yes, smart ass, it is." He rolled his eyes. "Do I have to remind you how old you are as well?"

I threw a pillow at Cole's face.

He laughed in reply. "It's your last year before you're two decades, Luke. Live it up, mate."

"I can't live in this place." I scoffed. "I'm in a cage."

"I don't know, rumor has it you're getting out pretty soon."

Thankfully, before I could reply the door swung open to reveal my favorite smiling nurse, Susan. She looked into my eyes with her bright cat like green ones and smiled.

"Happy birthday Luke." Her accent was strong and German. She was probably the most sweetest person in this hell hole and I loved her like a second mother. Susan handed Cole and I our morning pills and then left with a smile.

I hopped up from bed and entered the hallway, only to come in contact with total havoc. Everyone was standing in front of a room screaming and crying. I noticed Alaska sitting with her back against the metal door in the middle of all the action. She was crying and silent. I went to her and she looked up at me.

"Alaska? What's wrong?" I inquired. She didn't reply and went back to crying.

"What the fuck happened?" I asked, my voice raising quite a bit. Everyone silenced down and pointed inside the room, which I'm guessing is Alaska's.
