"And what do you want me to do?" I ask. "We want you to go to this high school, as a student, and tell us exactly everything that happens throughout the day. We want you to befriend anyone who seems suspicious. And if anyone suspects that you're not normal, lead them a stray." Brad tells me. "And you're making me do this all by myself?" I ask him. He scratches his head. "Not exactly..." His voice trails off. Kevin rolls his eyes again. "Brad's son, Jack, is going to be with you." Kevin tells me. I scrunch my eyebrows. "Your son? I've known you for 15 years and you've never once mentioned a son." I point out. Brad nods. "There's a good reason for that. He lives with his mother. He never really liked me." He tells me. I try not to laugh at the irony. "Oh, and I wonder why. You seem like such a people person." I joke. Brad then rolls HIS eyes. Kevin sighs. "Anyway, Jack has all the same classes as you, we obviously made sure of that, so if anything goes wrong he's there with you." He tells me. I turn back to Brad. "So, what's he like? Jack, I mean." I ask. Brad shrugs. "I actually don't have that great of a realtionship with him. He lives with his mom and her husband. He doesn't even have my last name." Brad says softly. And in that moment, for a split second, I actually felt BAD for BRAD. That night when I went to sleep, I couldn't help but wonder if Brad would be nicer if he had a better relationship with Jack. But I also felt like Brad would always be the same and I guess in a way it isn't his fault. He's the big man on campus. Everyone absolutely loves him. Well, everyone except the "projects".

Ok, so, I was originally going to act like I named Jack after Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic, but I couldn't lie. Spoiler alert: Jack is based off of a real person too!!! 😂 That's not actually a spoiler. Anyway, his name in real life isn't what it is in the book but it's very close. There's one thing about me that's very clear: I am anything BUT a subtle person.
