{Once again nothing too special but we gotta get the character development in okay?}
I couldn't fucking believe this.
"So you guys are a boy band?" I scoffed.
"Um... Yes." Edwin replied. I cackled.
"Oh god, okay but really." They all looked very serious. I nearly choked on the popcorn that I had stolen from the pantry. I'm sure that by the end of the week their bills for food would be through the roof but I honestly didn't care. "Wait you're serious?" I continued. Still no change in expression.
"Yep." Suddenly I felt a little bad that I had laughed. "Oh, um that's cool." Ruby and I were sitting on the couch with the four boys other than Brandon who had gone MIA with Audrey. Austin was playing some dumb video game that I always see all over the internet while Nick was sitting alone at the marble countertop in the kitchen, and Zion, Edwin, Ruby, and I were all discussing our personal lives. I'd learned that both Zion and Edwin were 18. Zion was Canadian and played hockey and Edwin was from New York. They'd moved to LA to be a part of some band that was like One Direction 2.0 along with all the other boys. They were here in Santa Monica on a break for a couple of weeks just to get some inspiration for new songs.
"So why were you guys in the club tonight? You've gotta have girlfriends, right?" Ruby tried to make it seem like she was joking but kinda failed miserably. Neither Zion or Edwin seemed to notice. Edwin chuckled.
"Well Nick, Austin, and I all do. Zion's a single pringle. Brandon, well he's a different story."
"What do you mean?" I pried.
"Well honestly it's a touchy subject. The whole reason we went out tonight was to see if we could cheer him up a bit. I mean he's always in a goofy mood, but after the breakup he's just seemed odd. I dunno." I heard a door swish open upstairs and watched as Brandon walked down the large flight of stairs. He was still dressed in his clothes, black skinny jeans and a yellow Tommy Hilfiger shirt. He barely glanced at us as he walked into the kitchen and grabbed a cup of water before heading back upstairs. "See what I mean? He's not usually like, so quiet and depressing." Edwin continued as soon as we heard the door shut softly.
"How long ago did they break up?" I questioned.
"It's been about a month." Zion told us. I was still a little bit irked that Zion had kept his fame a secret and dragged me and my friends into this whole mess, but after sitting and talking with him for a while I realized that he genuinely was a good dude. He was pretty quiet and always seemed to have something on his mind. Something about him just made me feel like I could talk to him all night long. I watched as Zion got up off the couch and grabbed a water out of the fridge and walked out onto the balcony. Ruby had gone to talk to Nick for some reason, and Edwin was sucked into whatever game was on TV so I decided to go to the balcony myself. It was still storming hard but Zion was sitting under a sheltered area. I joined him.
"What're you doing out here?" I asked. He seemed a little surprised that I had followed him out.
"I like the rain." he answered simply. I hadn't realized that I was still wearing my small dress until I felt the freezing wind hitting my arms. I pulled them into my stomach. "Are you cold?" Zion seemed concerned. "I can grab you some of my clothes if you want." I was positive that wearing one of his hoodies would be intensely relaxing. Something about guys coogne just makes me want to go to sleep, but I declined.
"That's okay. I always pack extra clothes when I go out. Believe it or not shit like this happens all the time to Ruby, Audrey, and I."
