13. Because Of You

"Urgh!! Why is this so hard?!" The Daughter of Athena complained, throwing (and not succeeding) a piece of paper in the garbage bin. A knock was heard on the door and she raised her eyes to see the Daughter of Zeus at her cabin's door.

"So, this is what happen when the nerds can't conquer?" Thalia joked, earning a glare from her friend "Oh, c'mon, Annie... Look at this place!!" she gestured the cabin, full of paper balls around, covering pretty much the whole floor.

"One, never call me 'Annie' again" the blond warned "Two, I'm stuck..." she admitted, her pride deflated. Thalia smirked and sat with her.

"Why are you so afraid?" Annabeth looked at Thalia shocked. Was she that clear?

I will not make the same mistakes that you did

I will not let myself

Cause my heart so much misery

I will not break the way you did,

You fell so hard

I've learned the hard way

To never let it get that far

"Daddy? Why are you sad?" a three-year-old Annabeth asked her dad.

"Your mother is too proud to be with us" His cold reply, made the child a bit scare, but reached at him and hugged him.

"I love you for the two of us" she replied, softly, thinking that was the problem.

"Go to your room, Annabeth" he ordered and she, being the obedient daughter she was, went.

Because of you

I never stray too far from the sidewalk

Because of you

I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt

Because of you

I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me

Because of you

I am afraid

"Can I play with they babies?" a six-year-old Annabeth asked her stepmother, who glared at her.

"No, you better go to your room" The child shook her head, scared.

"The spiders are there" she stated, terrified. Her stepmother rolled her eyes.

"There're no spiders in your room. Now, go" she ordered. Annabeth hung her head and, tiptoeing, walked into her room. She didn't went that far: a small spider was waiting for her in her bed. She ran out, screaming.

"Daddy!! Daddy!! Spider!!" Her father bursted in her room and left, mad.

"There's no spider, Annabeth. Stop calling attention!!"

"But, Daddy-"

"No buts. And no more lies" Those words made the kid believe she never was wanted. And she ran.

I lose my way

And it's not too long before you point it out

I cannot cry

Because I know that's weakness in your eyes

I'm forced to fake

A smile, a laugh everyday of my life
