Odele's POV
10 years earlier
"Odele Francine Kennedy! If you don't get your ass down here right now I swear I'll make you hurt until next month! Is 7:30 and my breakfast is not here and the house is a mess!" My father said.
My eyes eyes widened as I sprinted to my bathroom. My blonde hair looked like it was electrified. Dark circles under my lifeless eyes. I was wearing my black Athletic shorts with a band t shirt. I almost fell down the stairs as I ran to the kitchen to make my parents their breakfast. "You whore! Look at you, sleeping in, and messy hair. I bet a boy just left, huh slut? This is the path to prostitution. Your twelve and already getting stds!" My mother said to me. I tried to keep quiet and just make breakfast before I got slapped.
"Look at her when she's talking to you!" My father yelled at me. He got up from the table an d back hand slapped me. He left to the garage to get a beer. My mother just kept on scolding me on how bad having sex is and how it's a sin. I didn't even have any, I mean come on. I'm twelve. I didn't wanna upset them more so I just tried to block it out.
I put their breakfast on the table and my father gave an upset grunt. I walked upstairs and sat on my bed. My room was nice. I had a small bed with a desk in the corner and and one tall lamp on it along with a dresser and bathroom. The bathroom wasn't the best but it worked. I have school tomorrow. The first day at school. Ever. I'm entering the 7th grade and I'm really happy that I'll be gone 8 hours of the day everyday. "Odele! Walk to the store and get school supplies!" My mother shouted at me.
I walked in the bathroom and brushed my teeth and hair. I put on some overalls with a oversized flannel underneath. I had to wear mostly baggy clothes because of how skinny I am. We don't want people to stare and notice that they barely feed me. Note my sarcasm.
I walked down the stairs and my mother handed me 20 dollars. "Go. I don't wanna see your face anymore. You better be back in an hour. " She said calmly to me with little emotion.
We lived in a nice area. So no one expected what happened behind closed doors. I mean my parents gave me a phone it's the iPhone 5 it was my mother's but then she gave it to me Incase of an emergency. I try not to be ungrateful. I have nice things so I have no right to complain. Our backyard was mostly woods I've only been there once but I loved every minute of it.
As I walked up to the store I felt the hair on my neck stand up. I turned around and saw a kid about my age looking right at me. He was probably a year or two older than me. He had dark brown hair and light blue eyes. He was with his parents. He looked happy. He's very lucky.
I turned around and walked into the store.

"I'm actually gonna scream if I can't find the binders" I said to myself. "Well we wouldn't want that now would we." A voice said behind me. I jumped a bit from fright. I turned around and saw the guy from earlier.
His blue eyes. Light blue. Sky blue. Gorgeous, absolutely Gorgeous. "Hi. I'm Lucas." Blue eyes said. I just stood there. Looking at him. I'm probably looking a little creepy. "It takes two people to have a conversation." He said. "Oh sorry..I'm Odele. Odele Kennedy." I held my hand out for him to shake. He shook my hand and smiled. I felt a tiny little spark. Nothing painful but it was intriguing. "Do you know where the binders are?" I asked him shyly. He pointed to the next isle. "Okay. Thank you!" I said as I walked off. "Wait!" He said as he followed me. I turned to him. "Do you maybe want to hang out later?" He said kinda nervous. I was about to reply with yes but then my parents came to my mind. Shit. "Id love to but I have plans today." I said calmly.
His face fell. Well shit. I'm ruining this. Not like I had a chance but still. "Well your going to school tomorrow right? What grade?" He said changing the subject slightly. "Oh. 7th grade. At Westbrook middle." He looked up really happy. "Really? I'm gonna be in 8th this year there." I was about to respond but then I heard out loud town clock. It strikes every hour. ITS 9:30 am. I'm supposed to be back over thirty minutes ago. I visibly shook. "I-I have to go. It was nice meeting you." I said in a rush. "What's the rush? We just started talking. Am I that bad a conversation." He joked. "Uh no I just have the plans and I'm late." Very late. I got my things and bolted. I turned around on last time to see him looking back at me with some emotion in his eyes but I couldn't tell which one.
I payed for my things and ran home.

Let's just say when I got home it wasn't pretty. Perfect for the first day. I fell asleep that night thinking about those eyes and hoped that I would see them again.
I never saw them.
When I went to school. I never saw them. Everyday I hoped to see them. I never did
My school work was bad sense I had never gone to school. I eventually got a tutor. Her name was Alayna. She became my best friend. It was me and her against the world.

Years kept passing and I keep thinking about those eyes. I've excepted that I'll never see them again. It hurt but I had to know that all fun things came to an end.
