We raced through the dark and damp tunnels beneath the lower city. With each turn, we found ourselves at another brick wall and another dead end.
"How are we going to find the train in ten minutes," Evee said from the front of our line.
"Valen, you said it was at the center of the lower city, right?" Nate said as he huffed around another corner.
"Yeah, that's where I saw it," I said as I followed him up the stone path.
"I can get the coordinates to the center of the city," Nate continued, "But I need someone to keep an eye out for the train entrance."
"I'll do it," Evee said and slowed down to run next to Nate.
"Evee," Mat said and lifted his flashlight, "I'll keep the light steady. Just tell me where you need me to point it."
Evee nodded back to Mat and continued forward.
"Valencia," Nate said as he ran faster, "Once we find the train you know what to do. Everyone else, just follow me."
I ran after them, with Mat's mother close by my side. I held her hand to make sure she didn't trip over anything in our way. Macie was also beside me, helping her father in the same way. The light of Mat's flashlight bobbed up and down as more rubble fell from the ceiling and clouding our path.
"We have to tell the others," Mat's mother said and gripped my hand tighter.
"Don't' worry," I said and put my hand over her back to shield her, "We're going to get out of here. All of us."
"Mat!" Evee shouted, "What's that?"
The flashlight darted to the side of the tunnel, leaving us without light.
"Evee do you see something?" Nate said, "The map is saying we're somewhere below the center."
"In the corner," Evee said, "There's a ladder, I think?"
Behind a pair of metal barrels covered in rust, there was a red ladder that descended into a round hole in the ground. Above the hole, red block letters spelled out "A23".
Mat walked towards the ladder and shined the flashlight down the narrow opening.
"See anything down there?" Nate said.
"I think I see some seats," Mat said, "And, I think, I think an engine!"
"Are you sure?" Nate said.
"Yeah, come take a look!" Mat said and waved his hand down the hole.
Nate stepped into the light of the flashlight and peeked his head over the narrow opening.
"I think you're right," Nate said and stepped his foot on the first rung of the ladder.
"Valencia," Nate shouted back through the hole, "Send it now!"
