When I finally got a text back from Kyle, it was around nine at night, an hour and a half after I had gotten home. Well, it looks like we both had four hour shifts. Or maybe Kyle's shift was slightly longer than mine...
I had finished my short story at that point and I had been about to work on my math homework, which I had been dreading ever since I got it out of my bag. I had also been putting it off from the moment I had taken it out, doing little things instead like sharpening my pencil and going to wash my face, so "I didn't forget to later."
At the time I had actually forced myself to sit down at the desk and start it, I heard my phone beep to signal a text had come in.
Happy to have yet another excuse to put off the work, I stood up quickly and rushed over to grab my phone. When I opened the text, I gave a small smile.
From: Kyle <3
Yes, I had added a heart to his name. Is that so wrong? He was my first friend in what seemed like forever, and he meant a lot to me. Even if we didn't know everything about each other, no friend did, right?
Haha, hey! I hope I interpreted that text wrong... ;)
So he did think of the other meaning of my text. Obviously I had just been stating the simple fact that I was bored, and I obviously didn't mean for him to come...do anything. But I still found it funny how even though we were supposedly 'mature' at this age, we still found things like that funny and our mind still jumped to inappropriate conclusions.
Well, at least I still found things like that funny. It might only be me, though. Quickly, I hit the text box so I could reply.

I'm pretty sure you did, haha. I'm seriously just bored and putting off the math homework...trying to not look online to see what people are saying, though. They probably think we're dating, or something like that.
I got a reply almost immediately, but I forced myself to do one math problem before I could look at it.
When I finally finished the annoying problem and pushed myself to do another one, I picked up my phone and saw his reply.

Ugh, math sucks, doesn't it? You'll be happier in the long run if you don't look, too, Bell. Oh, and I figured out another thing that I like about you- you use correct grammar when you text XD But we aren't dating, anyways, so even if they think we are, it shouldn't bother you. Technically if they wanted us to be invisible, they shouldn't be talking about us anyways.
He was right. Of course he was right. I quickly typed a reply before I went back to the idiotic math homework.
To: Kyle <3
You're right, we are supposed to be invisible...and yes, math does suck. You use correct grammar, too, though...most of the time ;)
Even when the phone beeped, I forced myself to do two more problems. That's the only way I would ever get through this damn work that teachers believed was necessary for success or whatever.

Can you still not tell me what happened last year that changed everything in your life?
To: Kyle <3
I wish I could, in a way. I'm just...not ready I guess. Plus, it would affect so many people... They chose to blame me and their plan worked because it was four against one. Sadly, I'll never be able to clear my name. I just needed to accept that, and now I have. Nothing bad will happen to me, though. It's not like they have any evidence I did anything wrong...just four people who are lying...though no one knows that.
