Thing.
Thing was what she was called, by her mother in-law.
Layla cleared her throat and acted as if she didn't hear anything. "Asaad, Father is calling you." She said a little too quickly, then she left. Asaad looked at his mom, with anger spread all over before he followed.

Layla was alone in the kitchen making her wheat pancakes, when she felt a hand on her waist. She knew who it was and her pancakes were done .Perfect timing. She placed her pancakes on the plate and left.
And then he knew, the damage has already been done. He waited to see where she was going, then minutes later he followed.
"still eating healthy?" He said breaking the silence, though the tension was suffocating. She turned and looked away, putting more in her mouth. I mean she couldn't just stop eating, the belly had to be full.
"Yi hakuri (I'm sorry) I don't know what to say to make you feel better..." He trailed.
"It's okay, it didn't come out of your mouth, besides I just need some time alone.....okay?" Layla said not sparing him one glance.
He took a deep breath, and nodded standing up to fulfill her request, even though he really wanted to fix things. It was not his fault his mother does not like his wife, and it's definitely not his fault she said what she said.

"I don't know if I could live without you, please *dramatic pause* please don't leave....." Asaad said, earning a huge sigh from Mateo. A line to say, if she ever wanted to leave.
Mateo groaned."No! its too blank, she's going to leave before you could say 'without' ." Mateo said while writing down some notes. For Asaad he just felt numb, true. He knew how to hide feelings but he didn't know he was this good.
Mateo immediately dropped to his knees, took a hold of Asaad's hand, causing Asaad to raise a brow at him, "I don't know if I could live without you...." He lowered his gaze for a second, before raising his head to meet Asaad's eyes. "Please..... don't. leave." Mateo breathed out, as if in sync, a tear dropped.
"Wow.....could you *clears throat* let go of my hand now?"
He chuckled and let go."That's how you do it." Mateo said
"Apparently." Asaad scoffed, but it still left him wondering. "But how did your eyes suddenly get teary?" Asaad asked.
"When you can act you'll understand." Mateo said, hinting the statement with a little bit of pride. "You have to cock your head to the side so that you'll look more pathetic."
"Okay can I go now, it's been almost an hour already" Asaad complained.
"Nope. questions? anyone?" He clasped his together and looked around the room, leaving Asaad with a squinted nose. "I'm the only one, private class? remember?" Asaad asked.
"I know, it's acting, I was trying to act oblivious.... and as always, I nailed it."
Asaad shook his head." Um... how do you react if you find out your wife is...p-preg..umm..pregnant." Asaad sighed after stammering to get the words out of his mouth.
Eyes bulged, mouth opened. " Asaad Al'amin Jeffrey Lamar, don't tell me...
"That Layla is pregnant? well honestly I don't know yet, but she's been vomiting, eating extremely much.... I-I don't know, I've not addressed the issue to her so maybe she is not." Asaad said.
"She better not be." Mateo scoffed. "Do you still babies are bought?!" Mateo asked. Asaaad rolled his blue-green orbs and continued reading his emails, not listening to a Thing Mateo was saying.

Twisting and turning on the bed, hands clenched on her stomach, with muffled moans."Layla are you sure you're okay?" I asked placing my hand on her temple. I quickly grabbed my phone upon feeling the temperature.
Through a stammer, he finally got the message to the doctor. "um... be patient.......uh, she's on her way."
Layla groaned. "Wayyo Allah, na shiga uku (oh my god, I'm in trouble !)" she exclaimed with squinted eyes.
"No.....um, are you dying?" Asaad said still panicked.
"You think?" Layla said through gritted teeth, sparing him a death glare.
****next day****
Layla woke up with a migraine, considering the little amount of sleep. morning routines. aspirin. ready to go.
"Layla!" Asaad called.
"You're going to have to skip this day." He said before she could even turn the knob.
"Ali, I really need to go, there's a meeting I just can't miss and I'm fine if it's becuase of last-"
"We're going to the hospital, to find out if you're pregnant." He said as calmly as he possibly could.
Layla chuckled. " Ali, we're in the twenty first century, I can buy the pregnancy detector thingy, I don't need to go to the hospital."
"Okay. You're free." Asaad said as bluntly as possible, and continued taking his tea.
Immediately Asaad finished his tea, he went off to work, with Nina simone playing on the radio, and a muffled mind.
******
"Are you done?" Asaad asked leaning towards the bathroom door, with concern all over his face.
"Almost...." Layla said
"what about now?"
"Yes." she said coming out of the bathroom. "We're going to look in three, on my count." She said. Asaad nodded taking a deeeeep. deep breath.
"ONE. TWO. THREE......."
