Not Like Most Guys

I set my head back against the seat, liking the feeling of the wind rushing through the open window. Tonight was what I would consider a perfect looking night. There was a full moon out perfectly set against the nighttime sky. A smile tugged at my lips as I remembered something I told my friends not too long ago.

“Hey, Sean.” He glanced at me, taking his eyes off the road for a small moment to show me that he was listening. “Do you see how dark the night sky is?” I gestured towards the pitch black sky.

Sean nodded, “Yeah. What about it?”

“That’s how dark my soul is, as dark as the night sky,” I gently murmured.

I heard Sean chuckle. “You’re something else. You know that right?”

A smile tugged at my lips. “So I’ve been told. You know, I’m kind of surprised you didn’t freak out about that. Most guys say that’s disturbing. The whole my eyes and hair are as dark as my soul line.”

“Well, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but I’m not most guys.”

I rolled my eyes at the cliche line he just used and turned to look at him. His profile contrasted with the moonlight, giving me a perfect view of his long eyelashes, straight nose, and structured jaw. My eyes were drawn to his fingers which were drumming against the steering wheel. He was bobbing his head, a smile tugging at his lips.

 “Sean?”

 “Hmm?”

“Do you even know my name?”

 “I, uh, I mean..”

I laughed at how awkward he sounded. “You don’t know my name yet here you are taking me to your house? For all you know, I could be some type of serial killer,” I teased him.

He scoffed. “You being a serial killer? Please. That’s like me being, oh I don’t know, a ballerina dancer. Trust me, I know you’re not a serial killer. You’re way too cute and seem way too sweet to be that.”

Now it was my turn to scoff. “Excuse me? Did you not hear the part about my soul being as dark as the night sky, or my hair and eyes! I am not cute or sweet! I am evil, like the shadows in the night. You should fear me!” I sniffed, offended. “Plus I know multiple ways to get away with murder, just letting you know.”

“Are you threatening me?” He asked me, incredulously.

I shrugged nonchalantly. “Take it as you want; I’m just letting you know.”

“We’re here,” Sean replied, coming to a stop near the woods.

I looked at him. “You’re funny you know that. I’m not an imbecile. I’ve seen enough movies to know how this is going to end. You’re either going to rape me or murder me, so thanks but no thanks. I’m staying here.”

He rolled his eyes at me, “I thought we already established this: I’m not a rapist or serial killer. I just wanted to show you a cool place before we go meet my sister. But if you don’t want to see it, that’s fine. We can just leave.”

And once again curiosity killed the cat. You would think that the cat would learn by now, but she hadn’t. I let out a breath as we trekked up the hill, through the trees. “How long until we’re there?” I asked Sean who had taken the liberty to intertwine our hands together, claiming it was so we wouldn’t get lost.

“Just a few more seconds, I promise.”

I was about to retort that’s what he had told me ten minutes prior, before I saw it. It was a huge meadow, trees surrounding it in a circle.  My eyes wandered to the tiny, violet flowers underneath my feet. They stood out upon the grass. I gaped at how beautiful it was. “This is... wow.” I breathed.
