How in the Worlds does he know my name? I didn't even know this person, never would I ever tell someone my actual age and the same goes for my name. That was it, no matter how bad I was hurt, I was determined to get out of this elf's arms and face him head-on. I struggled, trying to get out of his arms without hurting my head and my ribs. He felt me trying to get up and he lifted me onto the ground. It was dawn, meaning that I was out for... a full seven hours and forty-two minutes (What? I know my time. Actually, I love counting time!)! Because of how long it had been, I hadn't been on my feet for long, so I was very dizzy. He saw me wobbling and started to pick me up again.
"No, I can stand, get your filthy hands off of me!" I exclaimed, a bit louder than I meant to. He looked shocked.
"You know that you wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for me." He told me, angry, almost as if he wished he hadn't "saved" me. That was it, nobody, I mean, nobody talks to me that way and SAVES me. That just wasn't done. How dare he?
"I could have been just fine by myself, thank you very much. I can take care of myself, and I don't need anybody! I grew up alone, I always have, SO PUT ME DOWN RIGHT NOW!" I yelled at him.
Yes, I am an orphan. My parents died when I was little and I don't know who murdered them. Whoever did also wiped out most of the Elf civilization. I wanted answers—that was why I was in the woods. I started walking away from him.
"Where exactly do you think you're going?" He said.
"Away," I answered. "Away from all of this." I gestured to him and everything around us while I said it. There was more confidence in my voice now. I shuddered mentally, as I didn't like how I used the word 'us.' I have always worked alone and I always will.
"I'm not letting you leave." That was it he just poked my last nerve—
"Watch me!" I fired back. There's no way he could stop me, and even if he tried... Quick on my feet, I sped past him, looking back for a split second to see if he was following me, and he wasn't, but a noise sounded behind me, and the pounding in my head got worse and worse. My side started to feel like it was going to just rip itself from me. But I kept going. I didn't want to turn back to me to see where he was. I needed to escape.
Then all of a sudden I could hear his faint footsteps behind me as if he were watching me.
ZOOM! Something hit the back of my neck. I took it out to examine what it was. It was a tiny piece of bark, small enough to be a needle. There was a bluish liquid on it. I knew what it was at once, it was an older—but still very dangerous—version of a tranquilizer dart. We used to use them for hunting in my home, and they were commonly used around the Elfish families in my old neighborhood. My sharp eyesight started to get darker around the edges and there was a horrible pain in the area of my heart. If I didn't know the magical properties of the dart like the back of my hand, then I would most likely think that my heart was being torn out of my chest by some invisible force. Like I said, we used this dart for hunting, so obviously, we could cast a reverse healing curse on it if needed. This would make the prey so paralyzed and focused on the pain that it would be an easy kill.
A reverse healing curse is pretty self-explanatory. It does the opposite of healing, and it is a curse, so... well, you see. As I was blacking out in pain, I realized that the little jerk tranqed me. I was so going to get revenge when I woke up, and that time I wouldn't hesitate. He wouldn't even know what hit him. That's when my vision went black...
