Christine opened her eyes slowly. The sound of beeping sounded all too familiar to her and she panicked, making the beeping sound speed up. She started to hyperventilate. "Honey, it's ok. Calm down." She heard from her right side. Her mother came into view, stroking her hair. "Calm down." Christine slowed her breathing and her heart rate started to decrease. She saw a doctor enter her room, which made her nervous. "Christine, I'm doctor Thomas." He stood there, stoic. "You will be fine. Please be calm." He started. Christine looked at him with wide eyes. She studied him. He looked like he was in his late fifties. His hair was greying, and he had lines of age along his eyes. Black thin framed glasses were halfway down his broad nose as he looked down at her. A wedding band adorned his left ring finger and she started to breath normal.

Christine tried to talk, but it stung. She touched her throat and realized that she was bandaged. "Oh honey, you're going to be fine. You were cut. It will heal." Linda said. She handed her paper and a pen. Christine scribble down: James. Linda smiled. "They got him." She scribbled: Jail. Linda shook her head. "He's dead honey." Christine's eyes leaked with tears, but they were happy tears. She scribbled down the worst thing she could ever write: He raped me. Linda cried. She already knew that. When they brought her in, they conducted a rape kit on her, seeing as though she was half naked. "You're going to be ok." Christine leaned her head into the pillow and within minutes she was asleep again.

The cool September air whipped around Christine's hair, causing it to flow in the other direction. She giggled and smoothed it down with her left hand. A diamond engagement ring  that sat on her ring finger glistened in the sunlight. Wes held her hand tight. Since that night that they found Christine, he'd been very protective of her. He thought he lost her for the second time around. They walked toward campus to get to their classes.

The rest of July, Christine was healing from the wound on her neck. Luckily the two-inch gash wasn't deeper. She could've bled out and died right there next to James. The scar would be a reminder of him for the rest of her life. The man who terrorized her and tried to slit her throat. Christine still has nightmares of her ordeal, but she's slowly getting past it with the help of a therapist. Joy McAllister has helped her a lot in the last two months. Her mother has been a big help and Wes, her fiancé and best friend bought a place for them to begin a fresh start to their new life, together.
