Chapter 11 ♦ Grumpy Beginnings

Danielle's POV

Why did I have to be in a family with my idiot of a brother?

"Wait wait wait. I'm a little rusty. My Earth slang isn't that great, so don't laugh at me if I say it wrong... How's 'I do not have no time for this'?"

I blink.

Starfire removes Daniel's arms that are around her waist and adjusts her sitting position on his lap to look at him properly.

"I may not be from Earth, but even I can tell that doesn't sound correct." Starfire comments as the rest of us chuckle.

"Your girlfriend's right. It's 'I ain't got no time for this. You're meant to use double negatives and 'street words' for it to be slang otherwise it just sounds like you're a confused foreigner who can't speak English." Rowan said to him from her spot on the recliner. Daniel then nods and says a faint 'ah'.

Idiot brother.

We've been taking refuge in Rowan and Timothy's home for a couple of days. At the moment, it is Rowan, my siblings, Sapphire, Starfire, Jay, Max and Justin in the living room. Rowan and I have been trying to teach the others here about Earth customs. I can't say it's going too well.

Taffy, Calvin and Timothy have been trying to find a way to track Exodus down from Tim's lab. They've been at it for hours and haven't left the room. None of us knows what's happening in that room. We don't know if they have found anything good or bad.

Felisha has been tending to Tobias with the help of Will. Tobias had gotten a really hard hit on the head when he was pushed out of the portal. He's been asleep for the entire two days we've been here. I'm really worried about him. I haven't seen him in such a long time and this is how we spend our first couple of days.

Alex is... Going through something. She saw her mother get hit with the ice shard, and I mean she really got hit. Aisha was literally lying in a pool of water and her own blood. I think Alex is worried if her mother had survived that hit. Isaac has been with her trying to bring her mood up but is currently failing.

Kyle and Lyle? Well . . . . To be completely honest with you, I have no idea where those two are. And to think, I just got together with Kyle and he suddenly just disappears. I swear this boy . . .

"How far do you think Taffy, Calvin and Timothy are from tracking Exodus? They've been in the lab for hours now." Max asked as she stood behind the couch, leaned over and placed her elbows on the back edge of the couch while biting her nails.

"We don't know. They should have found something by now." Sapphire answers as she fiddles with the white strings of the hoodie she borrowed from Rowan.

". . . Do you think they have good news?" Starfire asks while rubbing her thumb over the back of Daniel's hand. He took a hold of her hand, rewrapped his other hand around her small waist and places his chin on her shoulder.

"We don't know, but we just have to wait and have hope. Don't stress yourself out, babe."

"Can you guys just quit being all lovey-dovey with each other for like, five minutes?" Jay asked the cute couple, clearly annoyed by their cuteness

"Aww... You're jealous. Don't worry, you can have a girlfriend too, then you can be 'all lovey-dovey' with her all you like." Daniel teased as Jay just rolled his eyes.

"Hey, Daniel. Your cousin is awake. He just woke up." Will said as he walked up to the rest of us in the living room. I turned to look at my siblings from my spot on the floor
