The Car Ride and Liana

Coral's POV

As we rode through the streets, I looked out the window, then glanced at Reef. He looked so cute with his hair down and flowing...

He then caught me staring. I looked away, my face a full purple. Oh, yea, by the way a rare birth defect causes me to blush a deep purple, matching my eyes. Anyway, Reef smirked at me and caught my fleeting eye.

"Hey, Core, have you seen that cloud formation over there? What do you think it looks like, because me and Liana can't decide."
Reef said, using my old nickname.

" Ummmmm..." I glanced at the cloud in question, seeing a obvious seashell shape. "What do you guys see? Maybe it's different for everyone."

"Almost, Aquashot." I heard Reef mumble, but I didn't understand. I asked him to clarify, but he only said that he didn't say anything. Liana looked at us and said,

"Oh come on girl! I know you'd just pick Reef's answer anyway! Because you like him and all." She said it jokily and loud, but as always, Reef pretended he didn't hear anything. With Liana constantly dropping hints, I'd grown numb to it.

"Okay, ok, that would probably happen. I saw a seashell, and I'm confused on what you saw, because you aren't that dull." I giggled, getting a sour look and laughs back.

"Aw come on, you probably just heard Reef say that! It sooo looks like Spongebob! You all are the 'dull' ones! We all laughed and chatted during the rest of the car ride.

We got to Liana's and set up for her sleepover. I was in the midst of setting up my sleeping bag when Reef came over, whispering something to me and I nodded nervously. He walked away, I guess that's happening now. I finished setting up my bag, then went over to the corner where everyone else was going to exchange scary stories. Liana was starting us out with a Slenderman retelling, and I wasn't impressed. She was never the best vocal storyteller, but on this writing app on her phone, Swilet, she is a pro. She has a few books out, but isn't the best at updating. It's strange, because she's usually on top of everything, but it's Liana.

Reef began to tell us an original story with a great plot, a horror story so it wasn't completely up my alley, but one of my new favorites. It was about a merman going through many struggles, including making an enemy, and fleeing to the human world, only to find someone he loves dearly. My attention was captured through the entire story, and I didn't even notice as I leaned closer on instinct. Then he stopped the story. I immediately snapped back to reality, blushing and repeating to myself that we weren't that close, I was overreacting.

When it was my turn, I just retold the second The Little Mermaid movie, but darker. Obviously it's the best one. It was horrible compared to Reef's, but a little bit better than Liana's. Since we finished exchanging stories, we finished off the popcorn and started to watch the movie. I know it's weird, but I like to be immersed in whatever I'm watching or reading, and popcorn counts. It was the new Jurassic World movie, and I practically jumped off the couch at some of the jump scares.

Reef had said that he'd wanted to go to the restroom, but Liana had fallen asleep in the time it had taken him to get back, and I realized that he was probably waiting for me like he'd said earlier. I snuck out of my beanbag, making sure not to wake Liana up, and slipping out the door and walking down the beach to where he said they would meet, behind the huge rock, next to the water. The dramatic scene made my heart flutter, thinking about what Reef might want to tell me here, now. I saw his face, lit by the pale moonlight. He looks so... upset? Is he okay?! I'm getting concerned! !

He turned towards me, a tear falling down his face. How did he hear me?!

"...Coral?"
