chapter 2
I wake sweating in bed nervous of my surroundings, but I calm myself after the last six days come back to memory. Since my arrival I found it difficult to get accustomed to a life of rebellion. I was put into fierce training to get me ready for my mission which would commence today at noon. I was given orders by commander Strellin to embark to the new planet with a small team to scout if the new region would be suitable for the slaves of the government to go. The government had been feeding lies that all they wanted was for the human race to survive, but all they did was make us slaves to them. All the Compounds were dull areas where we were put to do tedious work to supply the government. The compounds always had plenty of resources, but only the simplest was given to us. The rest went to Cressia the luxurious city that the government and all of the important citizens lived in.
I stared at the room I was in, small but comfortable, a low simple bed in the corner with a dresser facing it. A desk was placed on the side and all the instructions and data was piled in a heap untouched on the top. I open a built in cabinet and see my uniform inside.
Turning around I look at myself in the mirror, my dark brown hair was in a tangled mess, and my eyes had the same intensity they had since day one. A slim yet sturdy build was all I managed to bring with me here. My eyes wander to the corner of the mirror and I see my seven year old neice's innocent eyes staring back. Ashley. She had the same eyes as me, but the rest of her features were my sister's. Flowing blond hair, a playful smile and soft thin cheeks. My smile disappears after thinking of her all alone at her grandparents.
As if growing up witgout parents was hard enough
…..
“11 minutes before launch” a hollow voice erupts from speakers. I chuckle slightly looking at the rocket, small but very slick with one main tube and two side tubes jutting on either side. The spotless steal structure is adorned with a large black logo. Freedom. A dove, so simple yet so powerful.
I jump into amusement thinking that if this mission is a success, the government would fall apart. Even with such great power, it would not survive without the compounds. There was always the choice of letting the government fall and then take over, but people were realizing that the earth was dying, resources were scarce and humans would extinct unless we moved on. Pollution from earth leaked into space and all the nearby planets were in the same state.
I look through the list of the crew. Me, a scientist known as Lenard, two co-pilots, and three soldiers as protection. I have only seen Lenard, an elderly man with a bushy beard covering his face. A pair of thick glasses concealed wild eyes, he was extremely short and required a cane to move about. The boarding platform had been lowered and all my members had already been seated. I look around the launch platform, a hectic group of people are seated with eyes glued to screens, typing at god speed. Different rocket parts litter the ground around the rocket. I stand before the rocket letting the rocket’s sheer size engulf me.
I’m startled as someone taps my shoulder, turning around I’m facing commander Strellin. He had come to command of the rebellion after the unexpected death of the previous commander months ago. “We all need you to succeed.” His icy breath digs into my skin. His eyes reflect his breath. Cold as death. Uttering that line he signals for me to go. I slowly walk up the boarding platform, glancing back I see Strellin stare back at me with amusement.
The mission had begun
