Part Four
"How are you feeling?" I asked Mark. We had been in the car for twenty minutes now and he had his eyes closed the entire time. I was starting to get worried, since he had all of these fresh scars and bruises. Maybe he had a concussion?
"Better. I really needed some rest. That chair was more comfortable than I thought it would be," he said, laughing a little.
"How long were you in there?"
He looked at me and smiled again. That was a reason I liked Mark. He smiled a lot and didn't let anything get to him, no matter how bad or negative it was. I really needed that, because all night all I ever felt was numbness. Like the moment I left my home everything became a dream and nothing was real.
I was not a very strong person. I did not feel the need to be a hero for my sister or anyone, and that destroyed me.
"Not that long. They moved me around all day," he replied.
"Oh, I'm sorry that happened to you. I don't know who would want us both dead."
"So, what about you? Are you okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. We just need to get to Rose fast."
"Don't worry, we're almost there," said Genie from the front seat.
I looked through the dark windows and watched as the car rode up the spiral road that ran around the huge hills, and then we stopped when we got to the large golden gates. They were broken. This did not make me feel good, not one bit. Someone broke the gates that led us into The Hills, where a lot of rich people, including my sister, were in. Hopefully the others weren't as stupid as to stay there.
"Which house is it?" Genie asked as the car drove over half of the broken gate.
"The first one."
"You're joking."
"I wish I was."
The first house was a two story one and it was the least expensive. Rose and Mark weren't very rich; they only got the house because nobody wanted it. It was a very beautiful house, but too dangerous in this community.
As the car slowed down in front of the house and parked, my heart began to pound fast. The front door was open and so were all of the windows. No lights were on and I could feel goose bumps rising on my skin.
"This doesn't look good," Genie said. "I hope you guys are prepared."
"Prepared for what?" Mark unbuckled his seat belt and struggled to open the door but I pulled him back right on time. Two girls were at the door watching us with automatic rifles.
"GET DOWN!" Genie screamed as the two girls fired at us.
The two girls were wearing costumes. One was a nun and the other a nurse. Both of them were covered in black paint and the nun had blood on her hands. The bullets hit the windshield but it didn't go through. It was bulletproof as well.
"COME OUT AND PLAY!" the nun shouted.
