She was caught in her own thoughts on the wooden floor to the watchtower by the fence. While she traced the carves script on the side of her sniper rifle. Abigail it said. The other girls had insisted that they should mark her weapon with her name like they all had done with their own. If she traced a bit further down she would feel all of their initials. It was a symbol for trust and a reminder that they would have her back always.Abby, what she likes to be called, was unconsciously holding the weapon closer and listened closely for anything that could be a threat. All she could here was how the wind was inviting the leaves to dance. It was a low russle that would normally calm her nerves and wash away all the stress. Inside of the camp it was a bit too loud. Besides being alone has always been what she preferred unless it was with the team. The ones she always could trust and the few that she opened up to since she came to the camp.
Something was off. It was something in the air that Abby couldn't read. She peaked over so she could get a good view over the other side of the fence but she saw nothing. The forest was almost calmer than ever before and she had been here since sunrise. She stabilized her sniper rifle on the edge of the tower and she looked into the scope to search for anything that was out of the ordinary.
Finally she found a target, a zombie that walked towards the fence. The thing was that it wasn't walking straight to the fence but almost along it. That was beyond odd and the bad feeling in the bottom of her stomach just got worse. With cold precision and not even a second thought Abby had pulled the trigger. The zombie fell into the ground with a thud.
Abby desperately wanted to move along the fence and see what made it walk in such a weird direction. But she was not allowed to leave her post unguarded. She could feel her entire being itching and glanced in the direction the undead was headed. She cursed the one that was supposed to take her post.
As if on cue Abby could hear a low russel of leaves and out came, you guessed it, Jungso.
"Yaa, I'm so sorry I got a scolding from Nar- oh okey! Bye?"
When she saw him she had immediately started climbing down the ladder to the watchtower and did not say a word. She only meet him with an cold expression not even bothering to hear him out with his excuse . As fast as he had appeared she was gone.
Swiftly she had put her rifle on her back as she sprinted along the fence that she guarded and along with a path that had been etched into ground. She avoided branches as well as roots while her eyes searched for anything out of the ordinary. But at the same time she hopes that it was just a dead deer that with its scent had lead the zombie here.
Abby was not in that luck. Her sprint came to a halt right before the big hole in the metallic web that was supposed to keep them safe. It was like all the air in her lungs had disappeared completely. A hole gaped at her as she stepped forward and tried to grasp the fence that was not there in plain denial. The hole before her was two meters high and broad, a perfect circle. It was like it never was there from the beginning or like someone had cut right through it like it was butter.
Right then and there a realization dawned on her. 'There could be a zombie in camp'
