Mira smelled of smoke after all the time she had spent before the fire pit. Because she had to make sure the hole camp got chicken in their soup and it took more time than you'd imagine. But even if it took a lot of time she carefully followed the instructions from Mrs Ri and even broke the serious expression that her face held to smile kindly at the older woman.
In the background you could always hear how all of the kids of the camp played and laughed. Even if she often looked serious and had a cold expression none of the kids ever hesitated to talk to her or ask to play. Mira had something over her that showed her good intentions and heart. Just like the ocean is serious and deadly but inviting and calming. Just like the knife has a blade but to a handle to hold.
She finished taking out all the bones of the grilled chicken and took the meat to Mrs Ri and waited for her instructions.
"Just put it in the soup and let it cook for a while and then it's done" Mrs Ri instructed kindly and got a smile as well as a nod to answer.
Mira did as she was told and repeated all the steps in her head and tried her best to memorize the recipe. Sadly no one knew how long Mrs Ri would stay with them. She was near seventy and many didn't even get that far. But she kept going with a smile and the ring from her late husband that glittered. So someone needed to remember her wisdom.
She was snapped out of how she rambled the ingredients by loud bang. Mira looked up to see a rather discuregged Jungso before Naras cabin door. He let out a sigh while he let his arms fall to his sides and meet Mira's gaze.
"You must really a-door her" Mira said with a serious expression before she broke down in fit of laughter and clapped somewhat like a seal.
Jungso couldn't help but laugh at the girl but it was still slightly bitter.
" I guess she can't help it" he sighed
"So she told you?" Mira was now serious and looked him dead in the eye and he gave her a nod.
" she is afraid and that's understandable, but the real question is do you love her?"
He got slightly startled by the words and question she spoke. But he answer was quick and without hesitation-
" Yes I do, I truly do"
Mira let a big grin spread across her face.
"Then you will make it. Now go to your post, Abbie must have been waiting for a while now!"

The lunch was done and eaten by all but the ones that had some kind of crisis and by now Mira just thought that it must be a dead deer or something. But apparently Haneul has asked them all to meet at a very specific part of the fence. It just must be a deer or something like that , nothing urgent has happened ever before. Not that the life they lived wasn't dangerous it's just that the fence was made of steel.
It shouldn't break.
Mira walked in a steady pace to the meeting point with a pot of the soup in her hands. Her dagger that was hanging from her belt bounced to the rhythm of her pace in an almost soothing way. Just like with everyone else on their team she had her full name carved into her weapon and all the other teammates initials carved into the wood of the handle. The symbol of absolute trust.
The breeze was playfully asking the leaves to dance but they always stayed put. Until the day they would die and peacefully hit the forest floor and become one with the soil. Sadly none of them could have that peaceful, calm life and that is a fact all of them had realized early in their life's.
Mira walked along with the path that they all had followed even if the law did not apply to inside the fence. But it was so etched into her mind that all her instincts told her to continue down the simple route.
She knew so little of how this path lead her to a changed life that she would never be able to walk away from. But even if she had a choice she would always chose to stay.
