Peridot POV.
"So... it really looks better like this?" I ran my hair through my now short hair, freshly cut.
Lapis, sitting on the counter next to the mirror, kicked her legs a bit. She smiled. "It does. But it looked fine before too."
"Did you ever have longer hair?" I ruffled my hair back to its natural state, turning to her.
"Yes. I didn't like how it flopped everywhere so I cut it shorter." She looked down for a second."I like my hair now."
I attempted to pat it down a bit. "Well I suppose it's gonna be easier to manage... and nobody in the next town will recognize me with it. Or... atleast I hope."
Lapis stayed queit for a second, her feet slowly stopping the small kicking motion.
"I... I'm sorry, about..."
"Lapis don't do that..."
"But it's my fault! It was stupid to try and come see you. I would never have wished this on anyone! The loneliness...the hiding... it's terrible! you have every reason to hate me."
I let my eyes droop while I frowned. Always apolagizing... stupid...
I walked over, planting my hands on either side of her. "Lapis."
She looked up, shocked. "Wha-"
"I was scared."
She stopped mid-word, and tilted her head.
"When I first came here... I was born and raised in a family meant to kill vampires... it was my first hunt."
She stayed silent, just looking into my eyes.
"I could've pulled the trigger, but I didn't." I paused, sighing. "Lapis, I... i COULDN'T."
"Peridot what... I don't understand. I thought your gun got jammed?"
I huffed. "No. The second I saw you my instinct told me to shoot, but you didn't even move. Our eyes met, and I just... I couldn't. Ever since then, every meeting we had... I still held fear. But it was fear they would hurt you."
She furrowed her brows, and opened her mouth to speak, but I placed my hand over it and growled. But I let my expression soften.
"I fell for you, as stupidly reckless it was. You were, and are, the most beautiful person I'd ever seen. And despite everything I'd been tought and told, I let you take my blood. I was split between you and everyone... everything I'd ever known."
"Being cast out was the best and worst thing that ever happened to me. You wanna know why?"
I lowered my hand, putting it back at her side.
"...why...?" She whispered, choking a bit.
"Because no matter what I will get to see you everyday. Until I die. I don't care if you take some of my blood, or can't keep me company all day. I'm just glad to be here with you."
Her jaw was clenched, and I felt her legs shift. She whispered something, and I furrowed my brows. "What was that, lazuli?"
She looked up angry. "You are SO. GODDAHM. STUBBORN."
She gripped my collar, pulling our faces closer. "Kiss me..."
I gladly pressed our lips together, and she immediately opened her mouth and sucked on my tongue. I moved my hands onto her hips, pulling her toward me and a bit more off the counter.
