The small giggles and the heavy footsteps entered my hearing more clearly then the siren and the shouts. A gentle shove from the girl beside me and excitement likely clear in both our eyes. We turned a corner; I nearly fell but Lapis was quick to grab my arm.
Even quicker to pull me into the narrow space to hide as the cop got closer and closer.
We were face to face, shushing each other and trying not to laugh anymore when I whispered. "This was a terrible idea."
She just smiled. It wasn't a rare thing, but I could tell the joy and amusement and raw mischievous nature of it. Her eyes reflected our actions; bright and blue and wild.
"You can't say you didn't enjoy it." She whisper yelled back, poking my shoulder as we giggled again. But a shout interrupted us and she leaned forward with a finger over her lips, almost brushing my own in the tight space.
It made me aware. Or well, more aware. Of the closeness. Her chest pressing against mine and heaving in breath, and one of her legs between mine accidentally when she squeezed us in. We fit together in a strange and amazing way.
And then her lips. Oh dear.
I barely registered the footsteps passing by as I stated at her lips. Open slightly as her breathing slowed. I had… stared before. It wasn't unreasonable. Lapis was beautiful. Half the kids in school would make a deal with the devil to kiss her.
She turned back to me. "It's clear, Peri. We-" she froze, and I looked up, forcing a smile that came of with my usual nervous energy. I couldn't tell for sure but she seemed to think for a second more before responding, looking at me strangely. "We… we could leave."
"We could." I answered shyly. But the meaning was there, and I nearly set my jaw when she seemed to catch the underlying meaning.
And she glanced at my lips as well. "We… SHOULD." She said, although she didn't move. She made no attempt to. And she looked back up at me, releasing a small shaky sigh.
I wanted to look down. To avoid that beautiful gaze and perhaps save myself some embarrassment. But after what we had just done, my mind decided I couldn't let it go. "Should we?"
It was silent. Nothing but our slowing breaths from running mixing together, and our eyes glued to the others as we processed this.
It was only a second. A split second in which it happened.
It became tighter. She pressed herself up against me.
It was firm, as she pressed her lips to mine with a tilt.
Warm, as I melted into the embrace and gripped at the nearest thing my hand could reach; not surprisingly part of her jacket.
Soft, when we both found the gentle rhythm we liked.
And it continued, Lapis moving gently and humming lightly into my mouth. I gasped a bit as she pulled back, but only for a second; only for air, before diving back and connecting them again.
I made a sound I can't describe, and it made her push harder, responding positively to it. I shivered as her hand slipped into my shirt, but only just, touching the skin just inside and sliding them to the side to grip my hips.
She pulled out of the kiss with a lazy smile, keeping our foreheads together and meeting my eyes again. "I've wanted to do that for awhile.
I could only nod. I was flushed, and it was seeping down my neck, and my eyelids hung halfway down in some sort of instinctual adjustment I'd never dealt with before.
"Are you okay?" She murmured, easing back on her grip on my waist. But I grabbed one of her hands and shook my head, not wanting the touch to go. My legs felt weak. Between running a good mile of alleyways and this girl I didn't know if I could walk.
"Uhm… y-yeah." I finally managed, shrinking back a bit but holding eye contact. "Better than okay."
She faded back into a smile, then kissed my forehead. I hated the whimper noise that escaped me. Had I no dignity? But it didn't bother her. She kissed down from my forehead, to my temple, then my cheek, then moved back a bit to meet my eyes before kissing my lips again, lighter and more gently.
When she pulled back this time she moved to nuzzle into my neck, and I lifted my arms to loop around her shoulders. She sighed.
"I should get you home."
I chuckled. "Should." I turned a bit, looking at her messy cropped hair. "There are alot of things we SHOULD have done tonight."
I felt her smile. "Fair."
I let my own smile fade, and in a moment of bravery I kissed behind her ear before whispering into it.
"I want you to take me home with YOU."
What a night.
