Jac was back at work. Again, so soon after her operation. Fletch was moping around after his break up with Abigail, feeling sorry for himself which Jac couldn't stand for one minute. She hated it when people wallowed in self pity.
"Mr Fletcher, will you please concentrate on what I'm saying to you?" She snapped as they stood at the Nurses station, talking about their next course of action for their current difficult patient.
"Yes sorry, I'm listening." He replied. However what Ms Naylor didn't know was that he wasn't thinking about his previous relationship with the CEO, but actually about the fiery woman stood directly in front of him.Fletch watched as she took her glasses off her face and folded them up in a frustrated manor.
"You know what, forget it. I'll find someone else who is actually willing to do their job properly." She snapped again and marched off back over to her office, slamming the door shut behind her. The Nurse was left stood looking bewildered, however a few seconds later he realised how normal this behaviour was for the surgeon. Fletch recovered himself and also returned to his office to catch up with some paperwork and gave Jac some time to calm down.At 12.30 pm Fletch made his way across the ward to Jac's office, armed with two coffees and two brown paper bags. He breezed in confidently without knocking and kicked the door shut with his foot. The surgeons head snapped up from the file in front of her at the sound of the door opening.
"Yes Mr Fletcher, what can I do for you?" She asked with a fake cheeriness in her voice.
"Well it seems I assumed correctly and you've forgotten about lunch so I bought us food and a coffee. Care to join me?" He spoke as he made himself comfortable on the sofa.
"I'm busy Fletch." Jac said bluntly.
"I'll take that as a "Yes thank you so much Fletch, I'm starving" then shall I?" He returned with a grin.He watched as she took her glasses of her face and placed them down on the desk. He watched as she began to study his face, looking for the real reason he had bought her lunch.
"Okay so maybe that wasn't my real reason for buying you lunch but it still works. Come and sit and we can talk."
With great reluctance she stood from her chair and made her way around the desk. Jac paused in front of him and he patted the space beside him. "Sit?" He asked softly. She complied and he handed her a coffee and a warm paper bag. "Dig in." He said and unwrapped his own food to reveal a surprisingly normal looking toasted sandwich. "See, I can do normal." She smirked at him and shook her head, taking a bite gingerly of her own."So come on then, what is it?" Jac asked, intrigued.
"Well you know that conversation we had whilst you were a patient? The one about my cousin's wedding?" He spoke when he had swallowed his mouthful. Jac nodded, still chewing.
"I was wondering if you would come with me? As my plus one I mean." He paused, gauging her reaction. He watched her eyes grow larger than normal and she shook her head violently.
"Uh uh no way. You know I don't do weddings."
"Oh come on Jac, please? It'll only be a few hours, we don't have to stay long. I just need to get my Aunt off my back about finding myself a woman and Mum's making me go." He gave her an intense look and they sat in silence for few moments."What's in it for me?" Jac said with a raised eyebrow.
"A day with me." He grinned. "I'm joking, we would have to go up on the Friday evening before because it's a few hours drive from here so I could take you for dinner when we get there?" He offered. "Not as a date of course, just as a thank you." He said in a rush.
"Yeah okay."
"Wait, what? You will?" Shock filled his face as he had expected her to still refuse.
"Yeah. You've been there for me all this time so why shouldn't I help you for a change?"
"Uh because you're Jac Naylor and she doesn't do favours." Fletch said with a smirk.
"I'm not that bad." Jac rolled her eyes and swatted him lightly on the arm. She cleared her throat and continued quietly, "I can be nice when I want to be."The surgeon stood up suddenly and grimaced in pain, turning away from Fletch's concerned face until she gained her balance.
"Come on, you've got a job to be doing and so do I. Out of my office please." Fletch decided to let what he had just seen slip under the radar and not say anything. He knew she would appreciate it that way.
"Thanks Jac, I'll text you the details later." Fletch stood and left as instructed and went back to his office. Meanwhile Jac paged Sasha and a few moments later the office door opened again.
"Hey, you called? Everything okay?" The man asked as he wandered in.
"Yeah, everything is fine. It's just I'm going away this weekend for something and I wondered if you would be able to look after Emma for me?"
"Of course I can. I've already got four littl'uns staying so one more won't make much difference. She's as good as gold."
"Four? Are they nieces and nephews?" She asked, shocked.
"No, well not technically but they practically are like nieces and nephews to me." He paused and walked further into the room. "Yeah Fletch's four are coming to stay with Uncle Sasha for the weekend. Theo and Emma are buddies aren't they?""Oh well good luck. But yeah Theo and Emma get on really well so they should be fine. She'll love it. Thank you Sasha."
"No problem, I'll pick her up from the crèche after my shift on Friday."
A few hours later, Jac received a text from Fletch. She put her pen down and placed her glasses on the desk in front of her once again.Hey,
The wedding starts at 11am on Saturday and the reception is at 3pm. I've booked us a hotel, two adjoining rooms, I hope that's okay. I'll pick you up from your house at 5pm on Friday. Thank you again for doing this with me.
