Chapter One: Nexis

The halls were crowded with people; people who often made her feel so abnormal, unlike so many of today's generation; Zuniper Mitchell didn't make it her life goal to go out every night and party, to get high and so intoxicated you became a medical mystery or miracle depending on one's perspective, Zuniper hated her school, her so called friends and everything else that reminded her that she was 'abnormal'; which included her abnormal beauty, there was beautiful and then there was Zuniper Mitchell, she had this supernatural quality to her beauty that made people wary of her. Her eyes were the color of the sky before a horrible storm; gray almost purple/blue in hue. Her hair was the brightest red that wasn't  even available in hair dyes. Her skin was flawless, she had never suffered from a breakout or bruise, it was the color of cream, well lightly toasted crème brulé.

"Zuni!" Zuniper turned and found to her utter dismay that the closest thing, she had to a friend was barreling towards her, no doubt with the latest party; that Kenzi knew Zuniper didn't care about. Nevernless Zuniper stopped and waited for Kenzi to catch up, "Zuni you should've been at Marc's party Saturday! It was off the chain!"

"What decade did you pop out of?Off the chain? Kenzi darling no one says that anymore."

"Like you would know!" Kenzi exclaimed,

"I read Kenzi, you should try it sometime," Zuniper said as she entered the classroom. "So tell me of this off the chain party." Zuniper said appeasing her friend.

"Alright so Marc's parent's were out of town and the party was epic! Until this weird guy showed up, get this asking for you! Oh my God he was adorable! He said his name was Nexis or something like that I totally wanted to jump his bones. Any who he just transferred to Athens Academy. Oh there he is now, NEXIS!" The boy turned and Zuniper's mouth dropped open; this was guy from her dream. Zuniper remembered because it was the only dream that repeated, constantly, in her dream she ruled the world with him by her side. Whom was this guy?  Here he comes, Zuniper fixed her hair and smiled at him,

"Nexis, this is Zuniper, Zuniper this is Nexis."

"Hello Zuniper, an exotic name for an exotic beauty such as you, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"The pleasure is mine, I assure you," Zuniper smiled flirtatiously, Nexis returned the smile and took the seat that was available next to her, "It feels like I've known you all my life, where did you say you went to school?"

"I didn't, I went to school in London, Ontario, it was a nice school but not as friendly and welcoming as this school, how long have you attended Athens Academy?"

"All my life, its a nice school when it comes to academics; the student body on the other hand is well, their top concern is with the latest party than with schooling, sorry Kenzi; but its the truth."  Kenzi sighed in boredom as Mr Lankford entered the room. Kenzi feigned paying attention by propping a book in front of her and then, almost in the same breath promptly folded her arms and rested her face between the opening that Kenzi justly named the arm's vagina. Zuniper looked disapprovingly at her oldest friend and turned her attention eagerly to Mr. Lankford and his lecture on V.C Andrews'; Flowers in the Attic. Zuniper dutifully took notes, making sure they were legible for Kenzi to copy.

The bell rang much too soon in the opinion of Zuniper, but as much as she hated to leave she rose from her seat and began her daily task of waking the slumbering Kenzi. Zuniper waited patiently as Kenzi awoke from whatever dreamland her mind had led her into. Kenzi looked up with a dreamy expression on her face,

"Is it lunch time yet?"

"No, but its Math time." Zuniper said as she always did...every day. "C'mon, you can sleep more in Mr. Blake's room." Zuniper said with the ever present disappointment in her voice.

"Actually, Miss. Mitchell; Miss. Waters will be staying after for a few moments. I'm sure she can give me a few moments, since she slept through most of my lectures this semester." Mr. Lankford spoke from where he perched on his desk.

"Of course Mr. Lankford. Be gentle, won't you? She's offly delicate after waking." Zuniper said in a joking manner that Mr. Lankford found as the norm and continued the playful banter.

"Oh I wouldn't dream of breaking the fragility of Miss. Waters apparent sleep deprived mind."

"See you tomorrow Mr. Lankford."

"See you tomorrow Zuniper." Zuniper led Nexis from the classroom, she intended on showing him around the campus before any of the party sluts sank their disease ridden claws into him.

"So, Nexis, where do you have to go now?"

"Math, same as you. Kenzi is in trouble, isn't she?"

"Most definitely so." Zuniper replied. They had moments to spare when they slid into seats in Mr. Blake's Geomentry class. Kenzi was not as lucky...she was almost ten minutes late, and the green pass in her hand gave everyone the reason why. All the teachers were color coded, their passes reflected which teacher have kept what student after class. Mr. Lankford had green for this semester it seemed. Kenzi found her way quickly as to where Zuniper sat, Nexis in her normal seat. Kenzi was in no mood to bother fighting for it, so like the person she was, disrespectful, rude, argogant, and down right rebellious, Kenzi plopped herself on top of Nexis' lap. Mr. Blake glared at her, but it seemed he too was in no mood for a fight. Zuniper smiled, despite the nagging feeling of jealousy in her heart. She continued writing down the equations Mr. Blake relentlessly scribed onto the board. The bell was a welcome relief as she hurried from the room. Nexis caught up to her,

"Hey, what Kenzi did was inappropriate and I took no pleasure from it."

"Really? Its fine though, its typical Kenzi."

"Why are you friends with her?" Nexis asked suddenly after a few footfalls of silence.

"She's the only person who cares I suppose."

"No, she's not. I care about you."

"You hardly know me Nexis."

"You'd be surprised."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing, I'll explain in due time.
