Chapter Two: Nature Revealed
Zuniper walked home slowly. Trying to memorize Nexis' face. His voice, his personality and the strangeness of his words before they departed, I know more about you, then you do yourself. Then he had hopped into his car and drove off. Zuniper couldn't wipe the foolish grin from her face, not even when her older bum of a brother called her the nickname she despised, Calla, Calla had been her twin-but she had died tragically in an attempt to fight off the tumor in her brain. Calla had been everything she wasn't. Outgoing, social, Calla, she loved people, loved the outdoors, and sports. Zuniper hated sports, the outdoors, social events, and she was a very well known recluse. Plus, Zuniper loved art more than she did sports. Zuniper found her way into her room, and she ventured to where a framed picture of her and Calla resided.
"Lily, what do I do?" Zuniper was intelligent enough to know that Calla would not, could not answer but she took comfort in the question all the same. For a long time Zuniper pretended Calla was alive, and would have conversations with her, throwing her voice to mimick Calla's Zuniper set aside the picture and started her homework. Always the dutiful student. As she put the finishing touches on her Frankenstein essay she heard little tap taps on her window. She walked to her window and looked down. There stood Nexis, Zuniper despite herself smiled and ran down the steps and outside into the backyard.
"How did you know where I lived, and how did you know which window was mine?" After a few moments they both laughed,
"Kenzi." Nexis dropped the rest of the pebbles and said,
"I wanted to take a walk, but I don't know the area."
"You want to be seen with a freak like me?"
"You are not a freak because you are beautiful, intelligent, and do not enjoy parties. They are freaks because they are not those things. Never call yourself a freak." Nexis said taking her face in his hands. "You are an exceptional, unique, beautifully wonderful and exotic girl. Do not let these pathetic excuses for human beings put you down because you do not 'party' or 'go with the crowd'."
"Nexis, why do you care so much?"
"Because, an abnormally beautiful girl shouldn't be harassed- she should be cherished." Nexis said so poetically, that Zuniper fought the urge to kiss him.
"How can you be so quotable, yet so young?"
"Dear Zuniper, in due time." Zuniper followed him, as they walked and talked she learned that Nexis came from a very rich and powerful family tree, and only after his father had passed away did his mother move him away from the prying eyes of Quincey family. He loved everything she did, and he cared about things, things other people simply overlooked. He was perfect; a prince that had come to rescue her from her own terrible life. When they reached the park, Zuniper chose a bench and beckoned for Nexis to join her.
"So, Nexis, how do you know so much about me, don't say Kenzi because she doesn't know anything really."
"Alright. My father and your's were business consorts they relied business deals between the countries each resided in and we have met a few times, but when the relationship soured your father made you forget about me, and you did. When I learned where we were moving I was so happy-because I got to see you again. And oh how beautiful you have become." Nexis said, tears gleaming, but she could not decipher if they were of sadness or of joy.
"Wow, I'm so sorry Nexis I didn't know my father could be so cruel. If I had remembered you-I would've called, or tried to visit."
"I know. But you see Kenzi isn't the only one who cares. I've missed you and loved you since the day you forgot about me in front of my very eyes. I remember crying your name, but the look of confusion on your face made me quiet myself and simply wonder how one man could have control over someone like you." Nexis continued. "I am sorry you live with such a tyrant."
"I am sorry your's is dead." Zuniper began, "But my father really isn't that bad. I have no recollection of him ever being controlling but hearing that, I'm beginning to question what's really my reality."
"I suppose I should get you home. School tomorrow and all."
"Yea, I guess so." Zuniper walked beside Nexis for awhile before he said,
"You won't believe me, but we were predestined for one another. We're supernatural and were predestined to rule the world. We're severely dark creatures. I understand if you don't believe me. Why would you? Your anything but dark."
"Nexis, what are you talking about? Again you know nothing about me." Zuniper began, "I'm so depressed all the time because I have put on this facade of being normal. Inside I'm a sadistic bitch. I hate everyone, even Kenzi, I hate people and anything that reminds me of the only good thing in my life, Calla. Do you know who Calla is?"
"She's your sister."
"Was. She was my sister until she died that is. Ever since then I've battled insanity! I still fucking talk to her! Expecting an answer so no, I am dark. I am very dark. Nexis, how are you dark?"
"Simple. I killed my father."
