Chapter 2: Should've Went with the Other One

Tomorrow is the day we leave.

We might stay in a hotel or something for the night or stay temporarily at her mom's house. The thing that I like about Kate's mom was that she was very supportive with our relationship together from the beginning. She persistently ask me from time to time if "we were ever going to have a wedding".

It's hard to say since (number 1) I couldn't afford a ring and (number 2) I don't know with the current situation I'm in. She's sleeping in my room with our son, Nathan, while I slept on the couch in the living room. With my current mood, there's no way I'm sleeping with her tonight.

I pulled out my phone to text Victoria; Vicky is what we called her. She was the type of girl that everyone would chase after. She was perfection and having a date with her was equivalent to winning a jackpot. I was one of those type of guys that was chasing after her back in high school.

The funny thing was, that out of all the hundred of male students in the school, I was the only one that she was attracted to. No kidding. So I was the jackpot winner. She comes by quite often to see me. (Which was very pleasant. Not like you, Kate, if you are reading this.)

After I declared my relationship with Kate to everyone, my friends began to tease me from here and there. You know, your the only Asian in the world to be able to win a hot white girl's heart like Victoria , Stephen said when we went to our graduation celebration; just a few days before the our high school graduation. But I'm glad that you've made the right choice at the end when you picked Kate Yeung. I don't know why I remember that quote word for word; but when I think about it every time, it gives me a sudden chill down my spine for some reason.

The last time I saw Vicky was the following day.

We went in and out of the apartment to transfer furnitures and some appliances into the U-Haul truck. Oh man! Those flight of stairs were awful. Why the fuck are there so many stairs?

When we were about to leave, a black Mercedes appeared. A girl with long blonde hair stepped out of the car, pulling her hair back as she approached me. The first thing I noticed were those bright blue eyes and her Snow White face. She was wearing a formal dress as if she was going to a job interview or something. I greeted her with wide arms.

"Hey, Vicky! How are you?"
"I'm fine. I heard you were moving, so I stopped by to see you. Is everything okay?"

Kate was observing us maliciously. From her angle, she probably think that we don't look like a casual-friend- relationship. I don't look so innocent either. Oh Kate, so now your concerned. Consider this as a somewhat of a  punishment for you when you were away. So suffer!

"No. Everything is fine."

I wrapped my arms around Vicky like a fine gentlemen. I shifted my eyes to my right. She looked very uncomfortable. Mission success!

"Do you want some coffee or....."
"Sorry Vicky....we're in a hurry." Kate butted in.
"Oh, sorry......I forgot. I guess I'll have to go too. I'll call you."

She sauntered back to the Mercedes slowly as if she did that purposely. As if she didn't want to leave yet. When she was at the car's door, she wave at me and I waved back.

I slowly retrieved my hand as I saw a guy sitting in the driver's seat. There's a 99.9999% that that's her boyfriend. Just by looking at his outfit, he's probably one of those rich kids in Harvard.

That's right. Vicky and I went to the same College but I dropped out in the middle of the year. She probably lost interest in me and went with another guy.

I watched the car slowly driving off until I couldn't see them anymore. Now I'm wondering, maybe those Asian stereotypes are true. The Asian guy always dates people in their own race or culture. Vicky is with a rich white guy and I'm stuck with an Asian girl, my wife.

For some reason, that quote from Stephen starts echoing in my head like crazy:
You know, your the only Asian in the world to be able to win a hot white girl's heart like Victoria. But I'm glad you've made the right choice at the end when you picked Kate Yeung.
