Emma POV
Being in the system is no fun, especially if you don't know how long you will be in a home for before you move again. Which is why I run. I run to make things easier for me when the time comes.
I have been to so many homes since I was found on the side of the road as a baby. None of them really lasted long. Life is hard for me, and it always will be.
That's what I always thought, that is until I moved here to Storybrooke. I have only been here a few days, and I already feel at home. I have never felt that way before. I just don't know what makes this place feel any different. I haven't really talked to anyone here except for Mary Margret and David Nolan, who are my new foster parents, but with starting school tomorrow maybe that will be different.
It's hard to go to school with so many normal people. I like the fact that when I move the only people that know about my situation are the people in the office. It makes it easier to kinda make friends, and not feel like they are only doing it out of pitty or something. The same goes for teachers. So tomorrow is a, yet another, fresh start. The only difference is this time I will actually put forth the effort of trying.
Next Morning
"Emma! Time to get up for school!" I heard Mary Margret shout from the bottom of the stairs. At first I wasn't going to get up, but then I remembered that it was the first day. That no one knew who I was or where I came from. I started to think of how the day could go when my thoughts were interrupted by my door opening.
"Oh good, you're up. There is some bacon and eggs on the counter, but if you don't want that there is also cereal." Mary Margret said from the doorway.
"Okay, the bacon and eggs sound great. Thank you."
"Great. And you don't have to thank me." I gave her a confused look, I'm guessing she saw it and continued to say, "You're in my house now. Which means I take care of you, and look out for you. Now you need to get out of bed and get dressed for school." I gave her a nod and she walked out of my room and closed the door behind her so I could get ready.
When I was done getting ready I headed down stairs to eat my breakfast then off to school I went. The Nolan's don't live too far from the school, which mean I get to walk instead of riding on some bus.
"Okay, I am heading to school. Is there anything that I might be forgetting or that I need to grab?" I asked before I actually made my way out the door.
"I don't think so. Just remember to go to the office once you get to school." David said standing up from the table to put his dirty dishes in the sink.
"I knew I was forgetting something," I said with a smile. "Bye guys, I'll see you when I get back."
"Have a good day kiddo," they both shouted as I walked out the door.
~~~~~~
I walked into the office and was welcomed with two smiles from a lady behind the desk, and a girl I'm guessing around my age.
"Hi, you must be Emma." I nodded and she continued. "You can call me Granny, everyone does, and this is my granddaughter Ruby. She is in your grade. You two have the same schedule, so she will be showing you around." Granny finished with yet another smile.
"Alrighty, lets get to it. Like Granny said I'm Ruby, and I hope that we can become great friends!" Ruby said bouncing up and down on that last part.
"I'd like that very much Ruby. So where are we off to first." I said with a smile as we headed out the door.
"Well first I was thinking our lockers, I managed to convince Granny to talk to someone to get us lockers by each other. You don't mind, do you?" she asked. When I nodded my head she continued talking, "Great! I didn't think you would, but still wanted to make sure."
