Chapter Three: Muted

Emma managed to get her own car, with a little help of compulsion.

She thought she set her alarm for 7:00 AM but it never went off, so she woke up at 7:45 AM instead.

She rushed out of the house, putting her blue hoodie over her sports bra, and got into her car.

It's now 8:00 AM as Emma tugged on her hoodie, and waited for the principal to print out her schedule and locker number and combo.

Surprisingly, Mrs. Martin came out with Emma's schedule.

"Emma... Ciel?" Mrs. Martin looked up shocked. It can't be.

"Hey Natalie." Emma was always awkward when she met someone she knew in her past life.

Natalie was speechless at the sight of Emma being alive, and standing right next to her. Not even a day over 15.

"How are you so young?" Mrs. Martin questioned.

"Um.. magic? Thanks for the schedule! See you around!" Emma practically sprinted out of the main office and unfortunately crashed into someone.

"OH MY GOD I'm so sorry I didn't see where I was going-" The person stopped mid sentence.

Emma looked up to see someone who looks just like Noshiko Yukimura.

"Why do you look so familiar?" The lookalike asked.

"I could be asking you the same question." Emma had officially lost her mind. There is no way Noshiko could still be alive.

Before any of them could talk anymore, the first bell rang, signaling everyone to get to class.

Emma grabbed her bag that fell to the ground, and her schedule, and walked to her classroom.

When she entered, all eyes were on her. Holy shit I've never been this nervous in my entire life.

Emma walked to the front and handed her schedule to the teacher.

"You must me Emma. Class, this is Emma Ciel. Emma, why don't you tell us a little bit about you."

Emma gulped. "I'm from Boise, Idaho-"

"Why does your shirt say McCall, Idaho then?" Some kid asked.

Emma laughed. "I went to McCall with my family a couple years ago. This was my moms hoodie."

"Have any siblings? What are your parents' names?"

Questions were being called out by different people in class, and that made Emma nervous.

"U-um I had a twin sister named Sidney, a-and my parents' names were Stefan and Mary."

The whole class went silent as Emma started talking in past tense.

"What does your last name mean?" The same kid who asked the McCall question, called out.

Emma's eyes brightened at the mention of her last name. No one has ever asked her that question before.

"It's French. It means heaven."

The whole class erupted into whispers as the teacher quickly began to hush them.

"Why don't you go take a seat by Liam. Mr. Dunbar please raise your hand." The teacher called out.

Emma looked over to see the guy who asked the McCall question, raising his hand. He's pretty cute.

Emma walked down the aisle and put her stuff behind her desk.

"Nice hoodie. I'm Liam." The boy put his hand out for Emma to shake.

"Thanks." She took his hand and shook it very tightly.

The little tattoo on Emma's left wrist started to glow. She pulled away from Liam's grip.

Her wrist hasn't glowed like that in 500 years. Why now?

~~

Lacrosse tryouts. Emma was always a fan of sports, but something about lacrosse drew her in.

Here Emma was, watching the tryouts, when she spotted Liam catching every single ball that tried to go through the net.

"What the hell?" Emma was beyond impressed. She didn't know he could play that good.

She saw coach on the last step of the bleachers and went down to say hi.

"Hey coach."

Coach turned around shocked. He never thought he would see Emma again.

"Well isn't it my favorite Ciel. Thought you'd be younger. How's your sister?" Coach was already tearing up.

"Yeah well so did a lot of people. And umm.. she's dead." It was hard for Emma to talk about her personal life, but she trusted Coach.

Finstock was in tears now. "Emma I'm so sorry."

She gave Bobby a hug, and squeezed him tight. He was the only real 'family' she had left.

"Hey so I was wondering, tryouts still open?"

Coach gave her a big smile. "Of course. Just, no angel stuff, okay?"

She took off her hoodie, revealing her bright pink sports bra.

"Got it."

What she didn't know, was that Scott was listening to her and Coach's conversation the entire time.
