Chapter 2 (lightning)

I woke ,up a few sunrises after we heard about the collapse, frightened of a dream I'd had that night. Cats were running and screaming as a giant tree collapsed on top of them. A voice in the dream kept saying "find the five, there can be none without the five."

I forgot the dream quickly realizing that our apprentice ceremony was at sunhigh. Our mother lilyripple wouldn't stop licking us all morning.

"Will all cats old enough to catch their own prey please gather around the high tree," Stormstar announced royally," lightningkit, snowkit, and firekit you have each reached the age of 6 moons old and are ready to become apprentices."

"Lightningkit from this day until you recieve your warrior name you will be called Lightningpaw. Your mentor will be Tallbranch his great strength and courage have made him a great warrior, I'm sure he will pass down all his knowledge to you." I padded up slowly and licked my mentor on the shoulder. We padded away and waited for my brothers to have there turns.

"Firekit from this day until you receive your warrior name you will be called Firepaw. Your mentor will be Echoscratch I'm sure that with his patience and experience can pass down all you need to know." He padded up and licked Echoscratch's shoulder. They padded over to join us.

"Snowkit, from this day until you receive your warrior name you will be known as Snowpaw. Your mentor will be Applepool I'm sure that she will pass on to you all that she knows." Snowpaw licked Applepool and padded over whispering excitedly.

"Lightningpaw, Firepaw, Snowpaw! Lightningpaw, Firepaw, Snowpaw!" The whole clan was shouting our new names.

"So Lightningpaw are you ready to explore our territory."
"Of course I am I've been waiting for 6 moons." We marched out of camp and Tallbranch started explaining what things were and what my new duties would be.

We ran into a mouse when we were on our way back. He instructed me in the hunters crouch and moved me around accordingly. I stalked forward and leaped towards the mouse missing by a whisker. Tallbranch ran forwards and nipped the mouse on the back of its neck.

"You need to focus more on where you see the mouse and where it's going." He implied.
      "Ok Tallbranch I'll try again," I think I smell something. Hmmm.  It's behind me. "I think I smell another mouse."
      "Good lightningpaw, which way."  I gestured and TallBranch nodded.  I kept my tail off the ground and focused on the mouse scent just like I was told and, pounced again.
      "Wait this isn't a mouse."
      "No lightningpaw it isn't," TallBranch sighed, "That's colts foot.  You probably remembered from when you had kitten cough." Why can't I do anything right today.
