"Watch it!"

"Fuck you!"

"The hell are you gonna do about it-?!"

"You think you're such hot shit-"

"I'm getting real sick of you-"

Two teens begin their daily bickering in the halls of Domino High. Their fellow students barely spare them a passing glance and swerve to avoid them. It was funny at first, maybe even a little interesting, but after two years of this happening the excitement and adrenaline has grown stale fo everyone. Except, of course, the two of them. They can't seem to get enough of ripping each other's throats out each day.

Staff and faculty and just about the entire student body have had enough. On more than one occasion, teachers had to intervene when things got physical. They are both one more referral away from getting expelled.

This is what two gods watch every day. From their place in the heavens, they watch them for their own amusement.

"Do you think they will begin fighting again?" One muses, swirling a wine glass and sloshing what looks to be liquid gold.

"Oh, most definitely!" The other replies, excitedly. "My money's on the short one."

And the second god is right. The shorter of the two, Yugi, swings at the other teen, Atem. His fist lands right in his face and Atem staggers backward. When he regains his balance, the gods can see the blood dripping from his nose. The first god frowns.

"You did that on purpose. You put Rage in his heart."

The second scoffs. "As if that isn't what we've been doing all this time."

This is how these gods find entertainment in their eternity. They lounge together and meddle with mortal lives. These two have been the most fun to manipulate in centuries.

Yugi has all the love and happiness a person could ask for. A kind mother and a wise grandfather that have raised him to be kind to all. But they are poor. Some days, Yugi goes is not able to eat when he comes home. Others, he curls up in bed and shivers under the thin blanket because they could not afford the heating bill this month. But the love and friends he is surrounded with keeps him warm.

Yami, however, is quite the opposite. Born into a wealthy but emotionally distant family. His time is spent in the streets, causing trouble and getting out of it through his father's money. He has little friends that he can open up to and even fewer family. The love he feels takes shape in his mother's slaps and his father's indifference.

And today, one god comes up with a brilliant idea.

"Why don't we make things more interesting?"

....

The plan was to switch the two teens' minds for a week. They would each see everything they ever wanted, for themselves and their family, and see how much the other takes advantage of it. And they would feel hate and anger and jealousy, known to be a terrible thing when mixed -especially among humans. They would ruin each other's lives, switch back, and then hate each other more. They would be their own destruction, and the two gods would find so much fun in watching.

Now, however, the two are left staring in shock. This feeling is something they thought they as gods could never experience, especially when the cause is a human. They are watching as a week later, Yugi and Atem kiss passionately on Atem's bed. It would seem that after a week of living each other's lives, they gained a newfound respect and admiration for each other instead of hate no matter how hard the gods tried to steer them onto another path.

But no matter how hard they tried, they could not fight the love that bloomed between them. It started as small glances of pity. When put through what the other had to live, they began to regret their actions toward each other. They felt no anger, only sadness and understanding. Then, they saw the little things they each did. Yugi learned that Atem would spend much of his time volunteering at community centers and helping children. Atem saw that Yugi would participate in card game tournaments and do just about anything to help his family financially. They would speak to each other about their schedules and worked through this predicament the best they could. They decided not to tell anyone so as not to be thrown into a mental hospital.

Soon, there were no fights in the halls and they walked each other to classes. Their friends looked on, much like the gods, in confusion and awe. When they saw 'Yugi' making 'Atem' laugh and share his lunch, they felt a confusing mix of confusion and happiness. This happiness soon manifested as Atem's and Yugi's friends coming together and hanging out nearly every day.

When the week was up and they found themselves in the correct body, Yugi met Atem at his house and they talked for hours. The glances turned into smiles, the smiles turned into a hug, and the hug turned into what the gods are witnessing now -a kiss so soft and firm that it melted away all the anger the deities tried to instill upon them.

"Well I'll be damned," one whispered.

"What- how- when-" the other sputtered.

"Ahem."

The two sat up straight and turned.

"H-Hathor," one gulped.

Hathor stood before the two lesser gods. Her usually warm eyes and kind smile are replaced by a cold expression and frown. Another thing the two lesser gods have not felt in so long -fear.

"We can explain-"

"We promise it wasn't-"

"Silly little things, aren't you," her voice carried in their head and shakes them to their core. It also shakes their surroundings and causes the bowl of fruit at their feet to topple over. She walks closer, slowly, gracefully, and oh so menacingly. The two gods scramble backward. "Two lovers, destined by me, have found their way." She finally reaches them and bends over, her eyes black as obsidian staring straight into theirs. "Ma'at wishes to have words with you two. As do Osiris, Bastet, and oh so many others."

...

Yugi pushes Atem off of him just as Atem was biting his way down his neck. Atem whines.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I just... felt something. Like something being lifted off my shoulders or..."

"It was nothing," Atem says, pushing him back down. He felt it too, but right now there are more pressing matters.
