Wonder of Sea's Woods

Chapter One

             It was a cloudy morning in Fairview when it all started.

            In Fairview a girl lived with her father and her best friend, Angel. Angel had been Sea’s best friend ever since she was a kitten. Yes kitten, Angel is a cat. Angel’s best friend Sea is an eleven year old girl who goes to Spoon River Valley where she has only one real friend, Jessica.

            On that morning Jessica came over to ask Sea a question about their homework. It was Sunday. Angel met her at the door with a cute face and a gently waving tail. Jessica picked her up and Angel meowed then started to purr. Sea came down when she heard the door.

            “Hey Jessica.”                                                                                         

            “Hey Sea.” Jessica smiled.     

            “I see Angel is enjoying having you here already” Both girls laughed.

            “Yeah. Anyway I came over here to see if you would help me with the math lesson that’s due tomorrow.” Sea looked at her with a gentle smile on her face. She was a very smart girl and loved to help so she said “Sure come on up to my room.” Angel now sat at the door looking up at Sea.

            “Mrrrowwww.”  Sea walked over to Angel and looked down at her.

            “Is she ok? Normally when I come over around this time she doesn’t want out.”

            “I’ll just let her out for a few minutes and follow her so I can bring her back inside if that’s ok with you.” Sea looked at Jessica as she nodded and Sea opened the door slowly.

            Angel dashed out the door something drawing her out. Sea did what she said she would and followed Angel. Jessica didn’t want to be there alone so she followed Sea who was now sprinting down the side yard to keep Angel in sight.

            Angel sat looking up at the back fence that was separating her from the woods. Sea caught up with Angel and looked at her a curious look on her face. “Well Angel why would you want to go out there?”

            “Mrrrowwww.”

Sea looked around and then out there and sees the clearing that has some grass and sunlight in it. “That’s what you want. You want to go lay in the Sun.”  Sea picks up Angel as Jessica come up behind them and opens the gate.

            They walk out and lay in the grassy clearing; Angel heard a noise in the bush and cautiously went in. Sea and Jessica were too busy talking to notice her going.

            All of a sudden there was a fury of cat hisses. Jessica and Sea jumped up and went to find the now missing Angel.

            Angel was circled by other cats that were encroaching on her. A big black scarred tom cat steps into the circle. The other cats bowed and the tom said “I am Thorn, leader of the Shape shifters that live here in the Endless Forest. Who are you, you strange cat?”

            “I am not the strange cat. Anyway I am Angel.”

            “Ahh yes, you are the one who lives with the Fingered ones that own the Endless Woods.”

            “If by fingered ones you mean humans then yes. “ She flicked her tail. Angel was getting angry.

The other cats were now just standing there watching Angel and Thorn talk, just looking back and forth a bit.
