At about sun high the next day Cody lifted his head and saw Angel, he heaved himself to his paws and went over to Angel and fell by her weakly. He pushed his nose into her damp fur to find she was still breathing, barely but still breathing. He started to lick her ear to get her to wake up as the rays of sunlight reached her.
After a while her fur was almost dry and she had her eyes open. Cody lay beside her and rested his chin on his paws. Angel stood up and Cody was by her side in an instant, worried about her. She stumbled sideways and then caught her balance again, looking over at him as she pressed himself against her side to help her.
She sat back down and he padded outside and down the hill. She followed him, not wanting to be alone. The moon was still in the sky, just above the trees by the time Cody had noticed she was following him. He loved how she did but didn’t like how she was wincing at every step she took. He stopped look at her and she caught up to him.
At that point she was almost ready to collapse in pain. Cody took her over to a patch of soft grass and ran of somewhere.
A few hours later Cody returned with three cats. One that looked almost like her, the other two were jet black. Cody nudged her limp body, she was still alive but not awake. He first thought about what was happening and began to panic. The three cats began to gently work her onto a sling.
Once Angel was in the sling the two jet black cats picked it up and put it on their backs so she hung between them. The cream she-cat nudged Cody to his feet and they all headed back to the camp.
Shellfur was her name. Cody was surprised by the resembalance to Angel. She looked over at him and asked "Are you sure she's ok Cody? She doesn't seem to be breathing."
Cody shot her a glance that told her not to bring up the subject again but it also had a bif of doubiousness in it.
"She's fine once we can get someone that's a real medicine cat to look at her." The worry was setting in his mind.
As the cats traveled to an unkown destination the air grew cooler and calmer. The terrain stayed rocky and hilly. The night sky above was darkening as the sun set beyond the trees and following hills. As the twinkling eyes of the Tribe of Endless Sky came out all the cats' eyes glowed in the shadows, the strange cats leading the way.
They wound their way around bushes and rocks as they went up and down more hills. After a while they settled down for the night. The two black cats set Angel down and left to go hunting. Cody looked at Angel and then at Shellfur. What was going to happen?
