Beth's POV:

As I woke up this morning, I could hear the rain pouring against the house walls and the sound of thunder. I sighed. I could already tell today was no good.

I decided that a hoodie and sweatpants were good enough. I mean, It's not like anyone at school would care. I wore this practically every day anyway.

As I pulled my hair into a sloppy bun, I heard the faintest crash of glass hit the floor.

"Mom?" I called.

No answer.

I tiptoed down the stairs and saw my mom fall onto the couch, clearly drunk.

I went to grab the broom and dustpan to clean up the glass shards, and as I did, my mom noticed and sang, "Hey darling! Whatcha doing sweety?!"

She laughed uncontrollably and I just rolled my eyes. Typical Mom. She acted like a stupid teenager, and I couldn't even believe she had once gotten a degree in business.

"Well, I got to go now Mom, see ya later." I walked out the front door and slammed the door shut.

But I secretly hoped that I wouldn't see her later. Or for the rest of my dang life. I mean, I could survive without her. I was taking care of the bills with my own money, and I had a pretty well paying job. I could do it. I'd just have to find a way out. A way out from underneath all the stress my mom was causing me. A way out from all this torture. I just had to.
