The night came and went an before I knew it Saturday had came. It was going to be our last circus performance here in Georgia. Then we would move again to some strange part of the world. Mom headed in early that morning because she was needed to help set up so I was stuck with my dad and little brother, James on the car ride there. My dad told my brother and I when we were little that we all had a special talent. My brothers was his magic cards. I on the other hand dismissed what he said and tried to carry on a normal life.

"So Kota find your talent yet?" My dad asks as he starts up his old raggedy pick up truck.

I rolled my eyes. "First off it's Dakota." I said putting emphasis on the da. "And second I told you I don't want to be like you."

I turned to face the window and away from his sight. Today dad was making me participate in the show. Meaning I don't have to clean up the two headed lions crap. I wore skinny jeans with a thin black long sleeve sweater. Along with my old top hat that I wore just for shows.

We pulled up to the circus to find my mother struggling to put Angelica back together. Angelica may be 34 years old but I swear she acts like and 8 year old. I raised an eyebrow as I stared at the legs running around and a waist up arguing with my mother.

"You might wanna go fix this." My dad said to me.

I hopped out of the car and walked over to my mother hearing her protests.

"Please Angelica! Just put yourself together!"

"Hmmmm how about no!" She snapped.

"Angelica can you go fetch me an Apple from that tree over there?" I ask.

"Sure Dakota!" She said latching herself back together.

"Thanks. She's quite a handful." My mom said smiling a somewhat motherly smile.

I laugh. "You sound like your talking about James or something."

"What about me?" James asked wiggling his eyebrows.

"Nothing." My mother says smiling.

"I better go start set up and see what crazy shananiginz I'll be doing tonight." I say walking off.

"You want me to what?" I asked following the circus manager to the back where we kept all the peculiar animals.

"I said that I want you to do an illusion act." He turned to me. "Except not an illusion."

"So what do you want me to do fly in the air?"

"Sure! Sounds wonderful! Ta-ta!" He said waving me off.

I walked back to the main part of the 'building' where I would be doing my act. How the heck am I gonna do this? I suck at 'illusions'. Just as I'm walking by a tentacle come out from a podium and tries to snatch me up but I know better. I stomp my foot on it and glare at the creature.

"I bottle fed you since you were 3 weeks old and this is how you treat me? I'm practically your mother!" I said to the tentacle creature.

It waved its tentacles around in an apology motion and I moved along.

Now back to my game plan. How was I going to do this illusion? I look up in the sky and say aloud for millionth time in my 17 year life. "All I wanted was a normal family! It's not much to ask for!"
