Chapter 3

"Oh, dear," the old woman sighed, holding her narrow-framed glasses in place on the bridge of her nose as she squinted at the painting on the wall directly behind the redhead. "You have got to move that painting closer up! When people come to visit you, and you open up the door, it without a doubt should be the first thing they see!" The geriatric woman trudged over to the wall in her slow manner, holding her back, as the redhead held the door open for her. "But Miss Gaskins, I will have nowhere else to position it. That is the only wall directly in front of the door, and is the closest." Irma sighed shutting the door and following the woman over to the picture and helped her remove it from its spot on the wall.

"Well, dang darn it! Build another wall right in front of the door, and place it there."

"Miss Gaskins," Irma sighed letting her shoulders sag. She wished nothing more than to see the grey-haired woman happy. Although sometimes she could be a little senile, but it was expected. Miss Gaskins was the redhead's neighbor. When she first moved in she was the only person that came to chat with her and comfort her. She even invited her to spend as much time as she wanted at her place until Irma felt comfy enough to be on her own. She fed her when she had no money to supply herself with food, clothed her when she just told her that she'd come to Japan emptied handed and minded, and she knows fully of Irma's parents and her harsh life. "I don't even own this place. Besides, I don't have the money to build a new wall."

"Irma," Miss Gaskins sighed walking around the woman's living area.

"Yes Miss Gaskins?" The redhead asked with an arched eyebrow.

"Would you like some cookies? I made some lemon pie yesterday-oh! Also I baked a cream pie and some cinnamon rolls-

"Miss Gaskins, with all due respect, thank you... but I'll have to pass."

"Irma, is something wrong? We never spend time with one another anymore. I know that I am in my dotage, but I can still, you know, "get down."

Irma only gave her a sad smile. She was a nervous wreck. She wasn't sure if she should or shouldn't tell Miss Gaskins about the warrior she had just met. She would most likely drag her across the hall because that's as far as her feeble legs would take her. She knows the old woman was strong in her days from her reminiscent stories of her childhood, teenage years, and adult years. And if it's one thing she could get from them it's that- Miss Gaskins did NOT like weapons, she was a pacifist and hardcore Christian. But she will put her foot down and 'roar' when she needed to. Sure she made some mistake during her time but she learned from them, and now swears she'll keep the same from happening to Irma. She would not take too kindly to Anais or Irma spending time with her knowing it'll ensue Irma less time with the old woman. And yes, even at her old age she was jealous type still.

"Who's here sweetheart? Oh lord is it the landlord? He's still harassing you? That no good pervert! Hold on dear, I'll be a second, I must go get my brick." The old woman started for the door until Irma stopped her.

"No, no Miss Gaskins that's not it." Did she say that she was a pacifist? Miss Gaskins will do a whole 360 when it comes to Irma, they were like real mother and daughter. They tended to each other and has what the other was missing or needing. Love, daughter, a family.

"It's nothing really, Miss Gaskins. I just met someone-

"Irma!" The old woman gasped and gripped the girl's shoulders with her shaky pale hands. "What's his name? When did you meet him? Didn't I tell you not to fool with these imbeciles around here!? You don't need a man! Oh Jesus! Did you spread your leg-

"No!" Irma's face was deeply flushed and she couldn't help but hold her cheeks and rub them in attempt to cool the heat that had arisen in them. "Miss Gaskins, she's just a friend."
