Chapter 8

Rays of sunlight slipped through the peaks in the curtains, a million dust motes danced in and out of the beams. The heat from the sun's rays poked at Irma's face making her swap at a non-existent insect. She fidgeted, her eyes slowly opening just to be hit with harsh light. She stretched her joints, sighing as she felt her stiff muscles pop. Yawning, she wiped the sleep from her eyes.

She twisted and turned her head in all directions calling out for the siren warrior. Where is she? She thought to herself. She yawned once more glancing down on her form. She blushed remembering all that had happened last night. The state of euphoria and ecstasy she had been in. The eye rolling pleasure she had felt. She could still feel her rosy bud tingling.

Irma shook her thoughts away climbing out of bed and wrapping herself into a silk gown. "Anais?" She squeaked into the silent house. She stood by the end of the bed holding onto the veil of the bed and spotted a note stuck to the sheets.

She detached the paper and read, "I'll be back. Stay inside. Don't be stupid. –A.C."

Irma couldn't help but feel lonely after reading the frank note. Her friend was gone. Even though she'd said she would be back, Irma couldn't push the lump that had grown in the back of her throat. A lot of people have left, and promised their return, what if her newly found friend was never coming back. What if she had gotten what she wanted from Irma and decided to pick up and go just like everyone else? Tears threatened to spill out her eyes. And she let them.

Stop it Irma, you're such a crybaby. She'll be back, she tried telling herself. The worst part is that Irma had to go to school.

Novosibirsk, Russia's third largest city; also its most boring travel destination. So this dead city in Western Siberia is where it all started. The winds are on an average of 34mph. Anais doubted there'd be anyone out today.

She strolled the abandoned streets with her cloak shielding her face. Her hair was braided back and her sword was tucked cozy under her arm. She had just retired from her morning meditation and was now headed to handle a loose end.

She approached a blue house with a swing on the porch. The house had "Hustler and Ho" written all over it. Literally. In some places the letters have disappeared leaving only the dark dirty outline of the letters. She stepped onto the greetings map and knocked onto the door. She removed her hood and prepared herself to read the person who answers the door. She knew not to underestimate the person based on their looks but their attitude. Both factors could help her determine how she could go about this. She could come off as a cop or a friend of Irma's.

A man in his late 40's answered the door, an unlit cigar in his mouth. He had a few rough hairs lined on his jawline and a V-neck that exposed his unflattering hairless chest and tattoos. His skin was dirty and discolored from acne. He leaned against the door frame smirking at the woman before him waiting for her to say the first word.

"Who dat?!" A saggy tanned woman in about her mid 40's came skipping behind the man and starring at the warrior. The man still watched the warrior with a disgusting alluring eye.

"What you want girl?" The woman spoke.

She settled it. She would play it both ways. One for the dummy the other for dummy wanna-be.

"I'm here about your daughter."

"Psh. What daughter?"

"Oh have you forgotten already?"

"Look we ain't got no damn kid together. I either wraps it up or she swallows." The man said, trying to 'lay it down'. Oh only if he knew what he was up against. But he will soon enough.

"Irma." Anais said tilting her head at the woman.

"Oh, well that's not mine so..." With that the man turned and walked back into he house.

"Look she don't live here no more—

"I want to talk to you about her." Anais feigned a desperate voice.

Just like she expected the woman rolled her eyes and opened the door wider for the warrior. "If she done got into some trouble I don't care, I don't want to hear about it. It was hell raising her." The woman switched over to the couch and plopped down next to her husband.

"Well are you gonna sit or what? You stand there like you about to do a presentation or something, damn." The woman blabbered as the man lit the cigar. Anais smirked. "No, I'll stand.

"Irma seems to have a lot of pain. This pain has been making her feel weak, and act according to her feelings and become weak. That's not good and I want to know what you've done to her and why." She spoke hard and straight-forward. She held her tongue not, nor did she take unneeded breaths.

Their faces became hard. The man tsked. The woman wiped her face and groaned mumbling something about a "crazy bitch", and "fucking slut".

"Look sweatheart—

"Don't call me that."

The man stood up. "We don't know who you are what relationship you have with that brat but everything she tells you is a lie. She's a loner she'll tell you anything if she can't get what she wants." He took a puff from his cigar and blew the smoke into Anais face. She clutched her sword preparing to draw.

"Is that all you came for or do you want to play around? If not then get the hell out."

"I saw the scars." Anais put her hood back on as the man turned his back to her. "I've heard you can be aggressive... But never this stupid to turn your back on an enemy." She withdrew her sword and shoved it into his back. Blood splattered onto the couch and woman's face as she sat in shock. She screamed and yelled the man's name. Anais withdrew the sword and the man's cigar fell to the floor into a spot of spilled liquor and ignited the carpet into flames.

"No!" She cried. "She did them to herself, we didn't do it. He didn't mean to she was being bad she deserved it." The woman stammered.

"You truly are a poor excuse for a mother." Anais kicked the woman in her face making her fall onto her back and placed the sword at the base of her throat. "Don't worry, I'll take care of her. She's mine now." She pressed the sword easily into the woman's throat making her choke and gag.

The warrior let her shoulders slump as she took in the smell of burning flesh and blood. She stood for a while near the door away from the flames.

Shame.

They didn't even have a smoke detector.

Writng this kind of made me realize how scary it could be to answer my door and have a stranger walk into my house and kill me. Makes me scared to answer my door.
