Chapter 4

Matt POV

We run out to the trucks and start putting the gear on. As we roll out, dispatch tells us it's a warehouse fire. Great, it's going to be a long, messy call. When we pull up the fire is rising high into the sky.

"Okay, Herman and Kidd with me." I yell and we start into the building.

"Capp with me." Kelly yelled and we start into the building. As soon as we get in, I feel the heat, even through my bunker gear. Squad starts checking the ground floor so I take truck up to the second level.

"Casey, I found the remains of a bomb." Kelly says as we continue to search.

"Report it to Boden. Have you found anyone?" I ask, truck finishing the search, finding no one.

"Not a soul. Landlord said it had been abandoned for a couple months now." Kelly said and I motioned for everyone to exit.

"Get out of there, it's about to flash." Boden said into the radios.

"On our way chief, there was no one inside." I said back into the radio. We finally made it out of the building. Kelly went to Kidd, which I did not fail to notice.

"I guess we put it out and head back." Boden said and Otis tapped me on the shoulder.

"Can you call Gabby and see if she's making lunch?" He said nervously. I nodded and pulled out my phone, just as squad pulled away. We stayed behind to put out the fire. But the call went straight to voicemail.

"Sorry dude, she must be cooking she didn't answer." I said shrugging. I watched as Otis and Mouch worked to put the fire out, when it finally did we pulled away. Then my phone started ringing. I was expecting it to be Gabby, but I was surprised when I saw it was Kelly.

"Gabby's gone." He said as soon as I answered. My heart started beating faster.

"What do you mean she's gone?" I asked, I saw Otis give me a look but I ignored him.

"I mean, there's blood on the floor and a burnt pie in the oven." He said. I motioned with my finger for Otis to turn on the sirens. He immediately did and stepped on the gas.

"We will be there in less then ten. Does Boden know?" I asked.

"He was the one that found everything. Connie said she smelt something burning." He said and we finally pulled up to the firehouse. I jumped out and everybody followed me into the common area.

"She's gone Matt." Boden said, staring at a pool of blood.
